The Vertex Project Management Co-Op is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards an undergraduate or advanced degree in STEM or Business fields. If you are passionate, collaborative, and growth-minded, a co-op at Vertex will help you gain meaningful experience in our CGT Program Management functional areas and serve as a launchpad for your career.

 What you will be doing:  
Vertex Biopharmaceutical Sciences Cell and Gene Therapy Project Management and Strategic Operations (CGT PMSO) department is responsible for developing robust, scalable manufacturing processes, and manufacturing clinical products for therapeutic modalities with the potential to treat and even cure diseases. These diseases include sickle cell disease, type 1 diabetes, and other biologics. The BiopharmSci CGT team is developing best-in-class process technologies, analytical methods, devices and manufacturing methodologies to ensure we bring these cutting-edge therapies to patients quickly. The CMC project management team within BiopharmSci CGT is accountable to support effective CMC project tracking, execution, and reporting with harmonized tools and systems, and collaborates with function leaders and stakeholders in the organization to support effective decision making related to CMC development and manufacturing.

 

This internship/co-op will assist a CMC project manager on project management tasks and building tools for effective project management and / or will help manage specific portions of scope for ongoing projects or programs. This opportunity will provide firsthand experience and insight into CMC drug development in Vertex CGT.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Support CMC project planning, coordination, and tracking across active projects and workstreams.
• Maintain project-management tools and documentation, including schedules, risk registers, project charters, deliverables trackers, meeting agendas, and action logs.
• Organize project information, prepare status updates, and help track milestones, dependencies, risks, and follow-up actions.
• Coordinate meeting logistics and support cross-functional communication among CMC, Regulatory, Quality, Device/Human Factors, and other project stakeholders.
• Contribute to continuous-improvement initiatives, such as standardizing Smartsheet templates, enhancing regulatory deliverables trackers, or assessing AI-enabled project-management tools.
• Assist with defined project assignments, potentially including support for the Pediatric Human Factors study/device workstream.

 

Qualifications:

• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong ability to problem-solve on the fly, ready to put on detective hat
• Comfortable with not having all the answers and working in situations with ambiguity
• Works well in an environment where speed is prioritized; has an internal sense of urgency
• Able to manage concurrent projects effectively
• Well organized, and strong sense of responsibility and accountability
• Proficient in Microsoft office Suite, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
• No specific education level or type requirements; may appeal to STEM students or Business students
• (Beneficial, but not required) Proficiency in Smartsheet, Coupa, Veeva, Icertis
• Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future. Please note that Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships/co-ops or entry level roles within this part of the organization. 
• You must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before May 2027 
• You must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January – July 2027 

 

Program Details:  

• Full-time, paid co-op $25.00 – 35.00 USD/hour 

• Program Dates: January – July 2027

Flex Designation:  Hybrid- Boston

Flex Eligibility Status:  Hybrid: work three days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
