Your Impact

The Vertex Mechanical Automation Co-Op program is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards an undergraduate or advanced degree (Master's preferred) in Engineering, Biotech, Biology, or other related fields. If you are passionate, collaborative, and growth-minded, a co-op at Vertex will help you gain meaningful experience in our VCGT T1D PD functional areas and serve as a launchpad for your career.

What you will be doing: 
The PD team performs late-stage process development for the Type 1 Diabetes Cell Therapy process. The Co-op will assist with experimental design and execution that furthers the development of the programs. Job duties include cell culture in 2D environments such as T-flasks. Recording, compiling, analyzing, and presenting data to the broader team. The projects will focus on the assessment of alternative raw materials for the program in efforts to find a robust solution to current challenges. Additionally, projects involving assessing stability and variability between lots of raw material may be included. The Co-op also has the opportunity to learn about the 3D bioreactor related portion of the process.

What you will need to succeed: 

Required skills:

• Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (Master's preferred) in Biotech, Biology, Engineering, or another related field
• Must have done at least 1 internship/co-op before
• At least some exposure to cell culture tehniques
• Experience compiling and graphing data
• Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future. Please note that Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships/co-ops or entry level roles within this part of the organization. 
• You must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2027 
• You must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January – June 2027 

Program Details:  

• Full-time, paid co-op $30.00 – 35.00 USD/hour 

• Program Dates: January – June 2027

Flex Designation: On-Site Eligible in Boston, MA
