Position Summary:

The Senior Director, Enterprise Technology & Solutions - Commercial and Global Medical Affairs sits within the Enterprise Technology & Solutions function of the Digital Innovation & Technology Solutions organization, led by the Senior Vice President, Digital Innovation & Enterprise Technology.

 

Reporting to the Vice President, Enterprise Technology & Solutions, this player-coach leads the team accountable for partnering with Commercial and Global Medical Affairs to shape business strategy, define the future-state digital ecosystem, and deliver capabilities that support product launches, growth, scientific exchange, patient access, and customer engagement. In close partnership with the Senior Director, Digital Innovation & Strategy, the role connects end-to-end business strategy to product vision, investment strategy, outcome-based roadmaps, and measurable results while supporting Digital Innovation & Strategy as a business function within the Commercial and Global Medical Affairs ETS portfolio. Operating in build mode, the leader combines executive influence and product leadership with hands-on involvement in process design, architecture, requirements, delivery, adoption, operations, and issue resolution.

 

Responsibilities:

• Build and continuously strengthen strategic relationships with Commercial and Global Medical Affairs leaders, acting as a trusted advisor who translates business, launch, and scientific priorities into product strategies, capability investments, and measurable outcomes.

• Define the future-state digital ecosystem and lead product vision, roadmaps, investment priorities, business cases, and tradeoff decisions. Balance near-term launch and growth needs with long-term platform, data, integration, and lifecycle strategy.

• Partner with the Senior Director, Digital Innovation & Strategy to provide an integrated business and technology partnership for Commercial and Global Medical Affairs. Support Digital Innovation & Strategy as a business function within the ETS portfolio, translating customer engagement, omnichannel, and innovation priorities into aligned product, architecture, data, content, channel, delivery, adoption, and lifecycle roadmaps with clear decision rights and shared measures of success.

• Lead functional demand and portfolio governance, resolving competing priorities through transparent assessment of value, risk, capacity, dependencies, and delivery tradeoffs. Partner with the Executive Director responsible for ETS Operations and Portfolio Management on enterprise portfolio processes, standards, investment tracking, executive reporting, and escalation.

• Serve as a player-coach who develops a lean, product-oriented team and works hands-on across discovery, business process design, architecture, requirements, vendor selection, configuration, integration, testing, deployment, training, and complex problem resolution.

• Own the delivery, operations, and continuous improvement of Commercial and Global Medical Affairs product capabilities and platforms, including Veeva and Salesforce CRM, PromoMats, MedComms, master and consent data, field and omnichannel enablement, market access, patient services, medical information, KOL engagement, analytics, and integrations. Reduce functional silos, simplify the technology footprint, and establish metrics for value, adoption, data quality, reliability, and risk.

• Create an environment that encourages experimentation, rapid learning, and responsible use of data, analytics, automation, and AI. Partner with business process owners and Digital Innovation & Strategy to drive process improvement, organizational readiness, change management, training, adoption, scaling, and benefits realization for new and enhanced capabilities.

• Embed security, privacy, data integrity, records retention, validation and assurance, and promotional and medical compliance into solutions in partnership with Legal, Compliance, Regulatory, Quality, Cybersecurity, and Data teams; support audits and timely remediation.

• Recruit, coach, and develop employees; lead systems integrators, managed service providers, and consultants; and manage budgets, contracts, service levels, delivery risk, and knowledge transfer to build durable internal capabilities.

Education/Experience Requirements: 

• Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, business, life sciences, or a related discipline; an advanced degree is preferred. Equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience may be considered.
• 12+ years of progressive business technology or IT experience, including 8+ years in biotech, pharmaceutical, or life sciences and 5+ years supporting Commercial and Global Medical Affairs; demonstrated success building or scaling product capabilities for at least one commercial launch.

 

Additional Skills/Experience/Requirements:

• Proven player-coach and product leadership, including 3+ years managing and developing direct reports, with the willingness and technical depth to perform business analysis, guide solution design, lead testing, troubleshoot issues, and challenge vendor recommendations.
• Deep knowledge of Commercial and Global Medical Affairs processes and platforms, including CRM, content and medical communications, HCP and HCO master and consent data, field and omnichannel enablement, market access, patient services, analytics, APIs, and integrations.
• Demonstrated ability to articulate strategy, simplify complex business and technology concepts, influence executive stakeholders, resolve competing priorities, and lead multidisciplinary teams through ambiguity and transformation.
• Strong knowledge of regulated technology controls, product and financial management, and benefits realization.
• Ability to travel up to 20% and work face to face with colleagues and/or onsite in San Diego; no role is 100% remote.

Compensation: Our competitive compensation package includes a combination of both cash compensation (base pay and short-term incentive) and long-term incentive compensation (company stock), designed to recognize, retain, and reward employees.

Target Base Pay Range:

$219,000.00 - $285,000.00
