The Opportunity

This position is based at our Mississauga office within the Diabetes Care division and requires on‑site presence four days per week, with the option to work remotely one day.

As the Medical Director, you’ll have the chance to provide strategic clinical leadership to support the safe, effective, and evidence‑based use of Abbott’s diabetes technologies. This role is responsible for developing and executing the medical affairs strategy, partnering with internal stakeholders across the organization, leading the development and execution of advisory boards and publications, and engaging top thought leaders in the diabetes space to inform future strategic direction.

What You’ll Do

1. Medical Strategy & Product Leadership

  • Lead the medical affairs strategy for Canada and provide input to the commercial strategy.
  • Provide clinical expertise to support product lifecycle management, new product introductions, and innovation planning.
  • Partner with R&D, regulatory, quality, and commercial teams to shape clinical positioning, labeling strategy, and patient‑centric messaging.

2. Evidence Generation & Real‑World Data

  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to support the development and execution of post‑market clinical studies, real‑world evidence (RWE) programs, health‑economic analyses, and investigator‑initiated studies.
  • Interpret and disseminate clinical and RWE findings to demonstrate product safety, performance, and value.
  • Lead Canada’s medical publication planning and ensure publications are relevant and aligned to strategy.

3. Scientific Exchange & External Engagement

  • Engage with top KOLs in the diabetes space, including co-morbidity KOLs, to inform future strategy.
  • Develop and lead Canadian advisory boards, expert panels, and scientific discussions.
  • Represent ADC at medical congresses and scientific forums.

4. Education, Training & Medical Information

  • Support the development of medical affairs and commercial resources that will be used with Canadian HCPs to confirm that it is medically accurate and relevant.
  • Ensure field medical teams are equipped with latest clinical and competitive insights.

5. Safety, Compliance & Regulatory Partnership

  • Collaborate with regulatory, quality, and safety teams to ensure compliance.
  • Support post‑market surveillance and risk‑management activities.
  • Ensure all medical affairs activities meet global ethical and regulatory standards.

6. Cross‑Functional Leadership

  • Partner with marketing, market access, HEOR, clinical affairs, and digital health teams.
  • Provide clinical expertise for payer strategy, reimbursement, and evidence needs.
  • Support launch excellence for new devices, software updates, or connectivity features.

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO with active license; board certification in Adult or Pediatric Endocrinology strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years clinical practice plus 3–5 years industry medical affairs experience.
  • Strong background in CGM or diabetes care.
  • Strong communication and cross‑functional leadership skills.
  • 30% travel required for scientific meetings and stakeholder engagements.
