BioTech Science Lab Supervisor

The role

The Associate Director Lab will be responsible for managing all lab-based activities including responsibility over BTSL lab owned equipment and facilities. The incumbent is responsible for liaising with internal and external Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and translating appropriate strategy of AS, BTO, IPT and Quality into actions. Focus will be on planning activities, giving in-depth science feedback on activities/protocols/reports and communicating with stakeholders on results and progress. As part of the position the individual will have significant responsibility for safety, compliance and (scientific) quality aspects for the department.

Welcome to the team

The BioTech Science Lab (BTSL) supports the transfer, troubleshooting and life cycle management of analytical test methods for biotechnologically derived products as well as supporting process investigations, continuing process improvements and process robustness studies. Furthermore, the BTSL lab has a crucial role in supporting the biologics IPT and the Quality Organization. The BTSL lab organization in Oss supports these activities by providing scientific expertise, troubleshooting and roll-out of the analytical test methods and manufacturing processes. The labs will use scale down models to mimic manufacturing processes and will attribute analytical testing for process development and characterization of registered products.

Main responsibilities

  • Collaborates closely with the stakeholders to assure that studies are executed according to detailed protocols, planning (including FTE-usage) and can challenge stakeholders on plans and study outcomes while keeping a customer focus mindset.
  • Manage on-time execution of lab studies related to complex investigations
  • Implementation and qualification of small-scale models’ representative for manufacturing scale
  • Support to Procedure Life Cycle management programs.
  • Ensure flawless execution of experiments in line with current quality guidelines and safety policies
  • Building the best team and talents by using corporate tools and training.
  • Ensures project results meet requirements regarding technical quality, reliability, schedule, and cost.
  • Develops and maintains expense and manpower strategy for BTSL lab (including contractors) in order to staff adequately both the scientific programs as well as innovative technology development
  • Ensures that team operates under accurate standard operating procedures and lab procedures including EHS and biosafety guidelines.

Required Education, Work Experience and Skills

  • PhD in biological sciences, biochemistry, or biochemical engineering or equivalent through experience with a minimum of 7-10 years relevant experience.
  • Relevant cell culture and purification development and protein chemistry experience preferred.
  • Must possess significant experience in analytical methodology for quality control of biological products
  • Proven strong scientific and project management skills.
  • Strong people manager.
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, and innovative process-oriented thinking within a team environment.
  • Experience in manufacturing sciences is preferred.
  • Dutch and English communication skills (verbally and written).
