NIX (permethrin) is a topical pyrethroid insecticide approved in 1990 for treating scabies and head lice (pediculosis capitis). It works by disrupting sodium channel currents in pest nerve cell membranes, causing paralysis and death of arthropods. The drug is rapidly metabolized to inactive metabolites and exhibits minimal systemic absorption (<2% of applied dose).
