About the Role:
We’re looking for a Senior Director, Business Development – Commercial Evaluation and Strategy to help us expand what’s possible for patients with serious diseases. Reporting to the VP, Head of Business Development, the Senior Director will play a critical leadership role in shaping and driving the commercial evaluation and strategic positioning of high-impact external business development opportunities across a variety of therapeutic areas. This individual will serve as a key thought partner to senior leadership, integrating market insights, competitive intelligence, and long-term strategic perspectives to inform enterprise-level decision making.What You'll Do:
In this role, you will partner closely with the VP of Business Development, New Product Planning Lead, and broader leadership team, taking a forward-looking, enterprise-wide approach to commercial evaluation and strategic prioritization. You'll also:
Lead the development of robust, integrated commercial strategies and business cases for complex external opportunities including acquisitions, licensing, and partnerships.
Own and drive end-to-end commercial evaluation across diligence processes, synthesizing insights into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leadership and executive committees.
Provide strategic leadership in shaping asset positioning, differentiation strategies, and long-term value creation opportunities.
Anticipate and assess evolving market dynamics, competitive landscapes, and macro trends to inform portfolio strategy and BD prioritization.
Establish and continuously evolve frameworks for commercial diligence, including forecasting methodologies, scenario planning, and risk-adjusted valuation inputs.
Lead advanced primary and secondary market research efforts to generate differentiated insights that directly inform strategic decision making.
Serve as a senior liaison across Commercial, Market Access, Sales, Research, Clinical, Finance, and Legal to align on key assumptions, risks, and strategic implications.
Mentor, develop, and provide strategic oversight to junior team members, fostering a high-performing, insight-driven BD organization.
Build and maintain strong external and internal networks to drive market intelligence and identify transformational growth opportunities.
Represent the organization at key external partnering engagements and industry forums, contributing to thought leadership and relationship development.
Who You Are:
You must have either a Master’s degree (ideally an MBA) with 8+ years’ experience, or a PhD with 6+ years’ experience, with a degree in Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Neurology, or other related discipline. Additionally, you have:
7+ years of business experience, in Pharma/Biotech, with a strong track record in business development, commercial strategy, and/or strategic consulting.
Deep expertise in commercial evaluation, including forecasting, pricing, market access strategy, and launch planning.
Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional diligence efforts and influence senior stakeholders and executive decision making.
Advanced understanding of disease areas (Respiratory, Inflammation, Immunology, CNS/rare), drug development processes, and commercialization pathways.
Demonstrated ability to translate complex data into clear strategic insights and compelling narratives.
Strong leadership presence with experience mentoring and developing talent in a matrixed environment.
Exceptional communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a high degree of intellectual curiosity and strategic thinking.
Experience building and leveraging internal and external networks to drive strategic outcomes.
Where You’ll Work
This is a fully remote role. It can be performed effectively from anywhere while staying connected to your Insmed team and community. Occasional travel for team meetings or events will be expected.

This role requires occasional domestic travel (approximately 10-20%).
