As a Senior Data Platform Engineer, you will play a critical role in advancing Moderna’s data platform capabilities, enabling scalable, secure, and governed data access across the organization.
You will operate at the intersection of platform engineering and data architecture, shaping the systems that empower data scientists and domain teams.
This is an opportunity to work with cutting-edge cloud and data technologies while contributing to a platform that accelerates innovation, including the adoption of Generative AI-driven data solutions.
Here's What You'll Do:
Design, implement, and scale robust data services on AWS using technologies such as Glue, Redshift, Iceberg, Lambda, EMR, Step Functions, and Apache Airflow
Build and enhance platform capabilities including self-service data ingestion APIs, metadata governance frameworks, and secure data sharing patterns
Develop infrastructure-as-code modules and support continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to ensure reliable deployments
Contribute to architectural design discussions, shaping technical decisions and ensuring alignment with Moderna’s broader data platform strategy
Partner closely with Product Managers to gather data requirements, understand business priorities, and translate them into scalable technical specifications
Collaborate with data scientists and domain engineers to enable governed, self-service data management capabilities across the enterprise
Perform code reviews, uphold engineering best practices, and contribute to documentation and team knowledge-sharing initiatives
Drive platform maturity by continuously improving scalability, reliability, and usability of data platform services

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)
5–8 years of experience in software or data engineering, preferably in cloud environments.
Proficiency in Python, SQL, and tools like dbt or Apache Spark.
Experience with AWS data stack (e.g., Glue Catalog, IAM, S3).
Solid understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, and IaC tools like Pulumi or Terraform.
Develop and manage ETL/ELT workflows to ingest data from multiple sources (structured, semi-structured, and unstructured).
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
Exposure to data Lakehouse and data mesh architectures.
Familiarity with data privacy and access control implementations (OAuth, RBAC).
Experience with AI/ML integration or supporting MLOps workflows.
AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
