Other requirements: You will have completed a minimum of 2 years of your undergraduate degree but will not have graduated at the start of your placement. You must be enrolled at a UK (United Kingdom) or ROI (Republic of Ireland) University for the duration of your placement.

Role 1 – Logistics Shared Services & Supply Chain – Barnard Castle
 

Degree requirements: Biomedical Sciences, Any Engineering or Life-Sciences Supply Chain + Business but open to any degree

Workplace Arrangements: Full time on site required

Overview of the Department

Barnard Castle is a key secondary manufacturing site for GSK, supporting a diverse portfolio of pharmaceutical products ranging from sterile syringes and vials to liquid inhalations and dermatological products. The site plays an important role in the development and launch of new products, with a strong focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement. Recently, Barnard Castle expanded its capabilities with the opening of a state-of-the-art aseptic digital facility producing biopharmaceuticals. The Logistics Shared Services & Supply Chain team supports the efficient flow of materials across the site and works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure supply continuity.

Key Placement Learnings

• Engage in warehouse inbound and outbound activities

• Provide guidance and support for departments, global suppliers and contractors

• Support new equipment introduction and new process implementation

• Simplification and automation of our material scheduling processes

• Data analysis of warehouse capacity and reporting on budget

Role 2 - GSK Production System - Worthing
 

Degree requirements: Engineering, Supply chain, Pharmaceuticals Science

Overview of the Department

GPS (GlaxoSmithKline Production System) is GSKs system for deploying Lean Sigma methodologies to drive business performance. Practitioners deploy the OneGPS system effectively through the site based on business needs, collaborating closely with the Site Leadership Teams and aligned Value Stream Directors (VSD). As a GPS Practitioner, you will coach and facilitate the embedding of the GPS standards so that work as a system to improve and support business performance. Key to this is GSK Industrial Placement UK Programme Pharmaceutical Business and Supply Chain (Multiple Roles & Locations) Industrial Placement, UK 2026 supporting the change management for enhancing our problem-solving capabilities and continuous improvement mindset.

Key Placement Learnings

• The Site GPS team is accountable for deploying and embedding the GSK Production System to deliver the Business Strategy and improving Business Performance (Quality, Safety, Service, Cost, and Innovation).

• Supports site teams in GPS roll-out; making sure that GPS is being used to develop the capability of all the Site personnel to implement day to day continuous improvement activities.

• Helps to ensure the day-to-day continuous improvement activities result in a continuous improvement in the Site Performance towards the goal of Zero Accidents, Zero Defects and Zero Waste.

• Conducts ‘self-assessment’ of the Site vs. the GPS Maturity matrices and supports the site to close any gaps.

• Coaches and trains Site teams in GPS.

Role 3 - Supply and Logistics - Worthing
 

Degree requirements: Engineering (accredited), Business, Maths, Science, Supply Chain based degree, Business or Supply Chain, Engineering, Economics or Data Analytics.

Overview of the Department

The scheduling team within the Supply & Logistics department at the Worthing site is integral to the efficient functioning of the site’s supply chain. This team oversees the planning and procurement of incoming materials to support manufacturing schedules and manages production timelines, ensuring that finished goods are prepared for shipment in a timely manner. Their responsibilities include developing plans that meet supply chain demands while operating within established capacities, thereby optimizing workflows, reducing delays, and ensuring a consistent supply of products to patients and customers globally. Placement participants will gain exposure and interaction across all site functions, providing valuable insights into a broad array of operational processes.

Key Placement Learnings

• Assist with inventory management and incoming material planning to identify and address at-risk stock (slow-moving and obsolete items) and coordinate with key functions to prevent future issues.

• Support cross-functional engagement to facilitate the batch tracker process, ensuring alignment between Supply & Logistics, Manufacturing, QC Testing (Chemistry and Microbiology), and other site functions.

• Participate in scheduling and cross-functional meetings, providing support with facilitation, issue resolution, and collaborative problem-solving across departments.

• Support and develop material planning standard work, helping to drive consistency, efficiency, and adherence to planning processes.

• Gain exposure to QC Testing operations, including Chemistry, Microbiology, and Incoming Materials testing, understanding how laboratory activities impact production scheduling and product release timelines.

• Develop digital solutions to simplify and automate existing scheduler and supply chain processes, utilizing tools such as AI, Power BI, and Power Apps.

• Work on digital improvement projects and provide troubleshooting support where required, helping to enhance operational performance and data visibility across the department.

• Oversee progress in relation to Supply & Logistics objectives and KPIs and provide support for project execution.

• Participate in and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the department and site to streamline processes and reduce waste.

• Gain an understanding of supply chain principles, quality operations, and the application of analytical thinking to business situations and scenarios.

This keeps the role focused on Supply & Logistics while clearly integrating the additional QC, material planning, batch tracking, and digital project responsibilities.

Role 4 - External Manufacturing – GSK HQ

Global Supply Chain management is all about ensuring we can supply our lifesaving and life-enhancing products to people around the globe, but making sure that the right products arrive at the right time in the right place is no easy task. We offer a variety of supply chain placements, from forecasting demand, production planning, raw materials management, and data analytics, to warehousing and supply chain logistics.  Whichever role you undertake, you’ll be fully immersed in the day-to-day and future plans of the role and in playing a key part in ensuring our products reach our patients and consumers in an efficient and timely manner.

Role 5 – Pharmaceutical Science – Worthing
 

Degree requirements: Biomedical, Engineering or Life Sciences

Overview of the Department

The Production Support team plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient manufacture of pharmaceutical products. Working closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams, the department provides technical support to manufacturing operations, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures compliance with GMP and regulatory requirements.

As an Industrial Placement student, you will gain hands-on experience supporting manufacturing processes and equipment, investigating operational challenges, and contributing to projects that improve performance, quality, and compliance. The role provides exposure to cross-functional working, problem-solving methodologies, quality systems, and operational excellence within a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment.

Key Placement Learnings

• Provide troubleshooting support for production processes and equipment. Support process and technical investigations, including corrective and preventative actions and internal problem notifications.

• Supporting and in some cases owning key compliance processes and activities aligned to the value stream, including but not limited to, Self Inspections, deviation management, safety sampling, Risk Management (Local and RMS), Laboratory Investigation / Plant Investigations, CAPA, Customer and Vendor complaints, and planned change.

• Identify opportunities to improve the production process through robust problem solving and continuous improvement, tracking and ensuring beneficial delivery of corrective actions, preventative actions and minor projects for department against measurable targets

• Support inspection readiness and manage Audit activities across the aligned department.

• Support updates and maintenance of key documentation in the production areas. Assist with the review, update, and maintenance of production documentation, procedures, and technical records.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive operational, quality, and business objectives.

• Develop an understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence principles.

Role 6 - Business and Supply Chain - Montrose
 

Degree requirements: Logistics, Manufacturing, Supply Chain

Workplace Arrangements: Full time on site required

Overview of the Department

The Scheduling Department at Montrose plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless coordination of production timelines across various functions. This team is responsible for managing schedules that align with supply chain demands, regulatory requirements, and operational capacity to meet business objectives. Their work helps optimize workflows, minimize delays, and maintain a consistent supply of products to patients and customers worldwide.

Key Placement Learnings

• Production plan scheduling for pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Role 7 - Business and Supply Chain - Ware

Overview of the Department

The Ware manufacturing site is GSK’s flagship location for New Product Introduction (NPI) and plays a critical role in the delivery of life-changing medicines to patients worldwide. Interns in Supply & Logistics will be at the heart of this mission, supporting the seamless flow of materials and products across a complex global network.

The Supply & Logistics department at the Ware manufacturing site is responsible for orchestrating end-to-end supply chain operations that ensure timely and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical products, which includes both oral solid dose (OSD) platforms and dry powder inhalers. The function comprises of Production & Materials Scheduling, Warehouse Operations, Harmonization team (Business & Data Process Experts), Launch & Data and Product Lifecycle Management. In this role you will have the opportunity to get involved in work across the entire Logistics function to support and manage the delivery of key improvement projects, such as improving Warehouse capacity and material availability, advanced scheduling programmes and lead time reduction.

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across Supply & Logistics, identifying opportunities to streamline processes and reduce waste.

• Utilize GSK continuous improvement methodologies to drive change and solve top problems.
