Manager, PX, GWE, Workplace Experience Lead

ROLE SUMMARY
The Workplace Experience Lead provides leadership, partnership, management and operational expertise to ensure approximately 2.5M sq ft of Groton, CT facilities support the advancement of the R&D pipeline. The site has the greatest concentration of specialty labs in the R&D network consisting of small molecule clinical manufacturing, GxP and non-regulated laboratories, vivarium, technical space (central utility plant) and office workspace facilities. Nearly every breakthrough therapy in the pipeline passes through Groton facilities and processes. This role will have direct oversight and accountability for the dedicated Clinical Research Unit (CRU) located in New Haven, CT and comprised of approximately 62.5K sq ft.  This site is focused primarily on early-phase human clinical studies and contains 50+ patient inpatient beds.  A critical element of the site’s performance is to ensure safe and compliant operations to meet and enable the aggressive timelines and evolving priorities of a first-in-class research organization.  Therefore, making possible the delivery of commitments while providing an enabling and engaging work environment where colleagues and contractors can do their best work.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as the primary onsite GWE point of contract for site leadership, coordinating responses, solutions, and opportunity resolutions through effective partnership for the entirety of the GWE soft services including but not limited to GMP cleaning, janitorial/housekeeping, food service, shipping and receiving, meetings and events management, churn moves and furniture, groundskeeping, pest control, snow removal, lab services and consumables, and new workplace services.

• Submit annual OpEx budgets for both the Groton and New Haven campuses (+$11.9M) to the GWE Site Lead for review and approval and accountable for management and oversight to forecast targets.

• Support and oversee site based real estate and lease administration strategies and activities including agreements with external partners covering buildings, buffer property parcels, parking lots and laydown and storage parcels.

• Lead/oversee daily soft service delivery operations, providing technical and operational expertise for colleague teams to resolve challenges and set goals, while ensuring the performance (KPIs and SLAs) of outsourced supplier programs meets contractual obligations and the needs of the R&D organization.  This is to include conducting Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs) ensuring contract compliance and alignment of service outcomes.

• Support/lead vendor negotiations, contract change notifications, and sourcing initiatives optimizing services delivering cost savings and service improvements (e.g., snow removal model redesign, dry ice sourcing, invoice governance).

• Serve as the Point of Contact (POC) for the GWE Concierge and the Get Service Site Administrator, supporting R&D partners and managing space allocations for all Research Units and Partner lines.

• Support site emergency preparedness and crisis management readiness, including participation on relevant site response teams and business continuity exercises.

• Leverage technology and industry best practices to provide quality in-house and outsourced services for various facilities management services, including but not limited to workplace concierge, audio visual and conference solutions, catering, pantry, coffee services, and colleague onboarding.

• Lead workplace modernization projects, including large-scale technology and workspace upgrades and/or refreshes, coordinating phased deployments with minimal disruption while prioritizing equitable access for all colleagues.

• Leverage AI tools and data analytics to implement and enable optimize operations — including large-scale program reviews, asset lifecycle planning, and invoicing workflow automation.

• Ensure quality compliance (FDA, GxP, AAALAC, etc.) requirements are met with service delivery to regulated workspaces including Comparative Medicine (laboratories and Vivarium), Global Clinical Trial Manufacturing (PSSM) and Packaging (GCP) and the Clinical Research Unit.

• Ensure all service provider personnel are maintained within GetAccess and current  with Pfizer training curriculum.

• Partner and collaborate with Site Affairs and the respective R&D Business Line Leaders to elevate the site culture and engagement through site events and special activities.

• Manage and oversee Pfizer and service provider resources to ensure laboratories, logistics, and site services are managed in a manner that creates an environment allowing researchers to meet their challenging objectives without interruptions, distractions, or quality concerns.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• Applicant must have a bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of experience; OR a master's degree with at least 2 years of experience; OR a PhD with 0+ years of experience; OR as associate's degree with 8 years of experience; OR a high school diploma (or equivalent) and 10 years of relevant experience.
• Managing key stakeholder interests while executing performance outcomes on a large multi-facility campus

• Providing or managing services via an outcome-based contract

• Working in a team environment providing critical customer service

• Demonstrating leadership, written/verbal communication skills, and negotiation skills

• Overseeing Environmental Health & Safety regulations in a pharmaceutical/research setting comprised of laboratory, manufacturing and vivarium environments

Technical Skills

• Demonstrated and in-depth knowledge of AutoCAD

• Demonstrated knowledge, skill and ability to manage a computer-aided facility management (CAFM) and integrated workplace management system (IWMS) platform such as TRIRIGA

• Ability to present and discuss findings with senior and first level management, colleagues, consultants and non-company officials

• Ability to prepare technical reports, evaluations and cost estimates

• Possess a broad understanding of contract administration, business principles and business law

• Demonstrated computer skills; MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in interior design, hospitality, facility management or related discipline
• MBA or Masters in associated discipline

• Experience in a pharmaceutical/research setting comprised of laboratory, manufacturing and vivarium environments

• Possess knowledge of FDA, GxP, AAALAC, and building codes

• Possess an excellent understanding of project management methods, procedures and controls

• Familiarity with outcome-based contracts, KPIs, and SLAs

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to multi-task, reprioritize, and focus on the appropriate work, at the appropriate time.  Must possess critical thinking skills.  Must be able to remain calm under pressure.  Perform quality control checks of the work of others.  Role requires physical stamina and the ability to walk up/down stairs, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

• Day shift with occasional after hours or weekend response for onsite support associated with facility incidents or excursions or planned shutdowns for capital and expense project execution

• Respond as required to the site in support of business continuity and emergency events

• Periodic travel may be required in support of GWE business requirements

• Entry and work inside the vivarium, regulated laboratories, process spaces, mechanical/electrical rooms, maintenance shops, shipping and receiving and service corridors.  While working in these areas, strict adherence to safety procedures, and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, is required.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $116,000.00 to $193,400.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 15.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
