1. Role Summary
The Digital & Technology Head leads the China Commercial Excellence & Innovation Digital & Technology (D&T) organization – the "Scale & Run" engine of CEI. The role is accountable for China’s commercial data foundation, enterprise engineering and deployment, and the reliable operation of all China commercial systems, and for turning AI solutions validated by the AI Transformation Office (AITO) into secure, production-scale and adopted business capabilities.
This leader oversees an integrated portfolio of three lines: Data Engineering & Semantics; Enterprise Engineering, Deployment & Operations; and Technology Adoption, Engagement & Transformation. D&T joins every AI product from MVP and owns production, scale and business-as-usual. The role connects China market priorities with global Digital & Technology direction and converts strategy into scalable capabilities, sustained adoption and measurable business value.
2. Key Accountabilities
- Define and execute the China CEI Digital & Technology strategy, target operating model and multi-year roadmap, aligned with China business priorities and global Digital & Technology direction.
- Lead technology-enabled business transformation by translating commercial ambition into redesigned processes, workflows, products, data capabilities, operating models and measurable value realization.
- Establish and enable high-performing CEI PODs with clear business outcomes, decision rights, product ownership, cross-functional staffing, architecture guardrails, delivery flow, adoption measures and exit or transition criteria.
- Extend China delivery capability through a deliberate partnership with PIC (Pfizer Innovation Center), combining CEI business context and Digital & Technology architecture, engineering and governance with PIC build capacity and China-to-global potential.
- Own technology portfolio choices and investment priorities across commercial systems, data capabilities, digital products and enterprise services, applying reuse-before-build and scale-or-stop discipline, in alignment with the AITO AI portfolio.
- Scale AI responsibly: take AITO-validated AI solutions from MVP to secure, compliant, reliable production and business-as-usual, with a BAU owner agreed before scale and one go-live gate for data, privacy and compliance readiness.
- Set enterprise architecture and engineering direction for commercial systems across solution composition, integration, DevSecOps, site reliability engineering, security, cost and technical observability, aligned with AITO reference architectures.
- Ensure enterprise data is AI-ready through data engineering, semantic standards, governance, quality, lineage and observability; deliver the CL layer of the AI Empowered Consumption Layer (AICL) as one POD with AITO (AI layer) and GCA Data Strategy & Management Team.
- Oversee reliable lifecycle operation of China commercial technology products and services, including modernization, operational readiness, releases, incidents, service performance and retirement decisions.
- Lead, develop and inspire the sub-function leads and their teams, strengthening leadership succession, technical depth, inclusive collaboration, transformation capability and outcome ownership.
- Build trusted partnerships with global Digital & Technology, Legal, Privacy, Risk, Compliance, Security, Procurement, strategic vendors and systems integrators.
3. Required Capabilities & Competencies
(a) Critical Capabilities & Qualifications
- Digital and technology strategy; business and AI transformation; commercial operating-model design; executive stakeholder leadership; enterprise architecture; technology portfolio and investment management.
- Enterprise engineering and deployment; data strategy, semantics and governance; product lifecycle; POD and agile delivery models; operational excellence; vendor and ecosystem management; working knowledge of AI and LLM deployment and operations.
- Strong knowledge of cloud and data platforms, cybersecurity, privacy, digital risk, regulated-industry controls and the China technology ecosystem.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a closely related technical discipline. An MBA or equivalent business qualification is preferred.
- At least 20 years of progressive experience across technology, digital, data, analytics, AI and business transformation, including substantial senior leadership responsibility for complex enterprise capabilities.
- Demonstrated success leading enterprise-scale transformation and converting technology strategy into sustainable business outcomes, operating-model change and adoption.
- Proven leadership of diverse teams across data, engineering, architecture, operations, product, engagement or transformation disciplines.
- Strong executive communication and organizational influence across local, regional and global environments.
- Experience in a highly regulated industry and the China data, privacy, technology and vendor environment is preferred.
(b) Leadership Expectations
- Transformation leadership: creates clarity from ambiguity and mobilizes business, technology and governance stakeholders around a shared future state.
- Business-first and outcome-led: connects technology choices to customer, colleague, operational and commercial outcomes.
- AI-first mindset: redesigns work around responsible human and AI collaboration rather than adding AI to existing processes.
- Enterprise perspective: balances China speed and relevance with global standards, reuse, interoperability and sustainability.
- Execution discipline: converts strategy into accountable roadmaps, investment choices, measurable benefits and reliable delivery.
4. Key Collaboration
The leader works across Business Units and CEI capabilities — including Go-to-Market Transformation (GTMx), the AI Transformation Office (AITO), Global Commercial Analytics (GCA) and the Commercial Excellence (CE). It partners closely with AITO: D&T joins AI products from MVP and takes them to production, scale and BAU, and agrees the production boundary with AITO. It delivers AICL as one POD with AITO and GCA DSM, extends delivery capacity through partnership with the Pfizer Innovation Center (PIC), and establishes the conditions for cross-functional PODs to operate with speed and clear accountability. It also partners with International AIT leadership, China CEI leadership, global Digital & Technology, Legal, Privacy, Risk, Compliance, Security and Procurement, and strategic vendors and systems integrators.
5. Measures of Success
- Measurable business adoption, transformation outcomes and value realization from digital, data and AI capabilities.
- Effective POD operation, faster decisions and reliable progression from discovery and prototype to production, scale and business-as-usual ownership.
- Strong collaboration and shared accountability across Business Units, GTMx, GCA, CE, PIC and global Digital & Technology.
- Secure, compliant and resilient operation of commercial technology products and services.
- Improved data quality, semantic consistency, accessibility, observability and AI readiness, including timely delivery of the AICL CL layer.
- Greater reuse of enterprise platforms, patterns and data products, and clean MVP-to-scale handovers from AITO with a named BAU owner.
- A high-performing organization with stronger leadership depth, critical skills and succession readiness.
