Co-op, Data Visualization and Application Development

About the Role: 

This application is for a 6-month student role from January - June 2027. Resume review begins in October 2026.

The co-op will join the Data Visualization and Application Development (DVAD) team within Quantitative Sciences and Development Operations (QSDO). DVAD builds and supports applications, data products, and visualizations that help stakeholders consume data in an efficient way while making better informed decisions. This role is for a student who can engage with users to understand their needs, is curious about how technology can improve work, and is interested in gathering user evaluation metrics to shape a successful product. 

 

The role will be divided across two connected areas. Some of the co-op's time will support a centralized clinical trial operations platform. The co-op will help develop an evaluation plan for gathering user feedback, support implementation of the evaluation approach, and analyze and report on responses. The goal will be to evaluate adoption, understand how the tool is being used, identify barriers or unmet needs, and recommend areas for improvement.  

 

The remaining time will support project management and information gathering to identify visualizations that could be useful across QSDO. This may include interviewing stakeholders, documenting business questions and user needs, organizing and synthesizing findings, tracking activities and decisions, and helping the DVAD team assess and prioritize potential visualization opportunities.  

 

Success will depend on curiosity, thoughtful problem solving, strong communication, attention to detail, and a user-centered perspective. Exposure to project management, survey design, analytics, research methods, or data visualization is helpful and will provide opportunities for hands-on learning with a cross-functional team.  

 

What You’ll Do: 

 

As a co-op you will: 

• Partner with the clinical operations platform team to develop an evaluation plan, including evaluation questions, target audiences, feedback methods, measures of adoption, and a practical approach for collecting and reviewing responses.  

• Support implementation of the evaluation plan by preparing materials, coordinating outreach, organizing responses, and maintaining clear and appropriate documentation.  

• Create a clear evaluation report that summarizes the approach, findings, limitations, and prioritized recommendations for future improvements. 

• Partner with QSDO stakeholders to understand current reporting and visualization needs, existing tools, pain points, and opportunities for improvement. 

• Plan and track small project activities, organize stakeholder input, follow up on open questions, and maintain clear documentation of decisions and next steps. 

• Create an inventory of selected dashboards and visualizations, including their purpose, users, data sources, ownership, overlap, and gaps. 

 

Example projects may include: 

• Clinical Operations Platform adoption and user-feedback evaluation plan. 

• Clinical Operations Platform evaluation report with findings and prioritized improvement opportunities. 

• QSDO visualization landscape inventory and opportunity assessment. 

 

Who You Are: 

 

• A thoughtful and curious student who is excited by the potential of technology, applications, and data visualization to improve how people work and make decisions. 

• Foundational understanding of research or evaluation methods, such as developing research questions, designing surveys or interview guides, collecting feedback, and recognizing bias or limitations in results. 

• Familiarity with survey tools, spreadsheets, presentation tools, data visualization platforms, or collaboration and documentation tools is preferred. 

• Comfortable asking questions, interviewing users, listening for underlying needs, and synthesizing information from multiple sources. 

• Strong written and verbal communicator who can explain ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. 

• Experience with descriptive data analysis, and data analysis and visualization tools like R, Python, Power BI are preferred. 

• UX Design skills are a plus. 

• Eager to learn in a cross-functional environment and open to feedback and iteration 

 

To participate in the Biogen Internship or Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria: 

• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. 

• At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date. 

• Currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college, university or skills program/apprenticeship. 

 

Education Requirements 

 

• Currently pursuing an associate, bachelor's, or master's degree, or participating in an accredited skills program or apprenticeship. 

• Preferred areas of study include user research, information science, public health, health informatics, social or behavioral sciences, business or data analytics, or a related interdisciplinary program.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $23.00-$29.00

The actual hourly wage offered will consider the candidate’s current academic level and degree candidacy, inclusive of Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s, JD, MD, PhD and MBA programs. It will comply with state or local minimum wage requirements specific to the job location.
