Co-op, Biologic Therapeutics Discovery and Engineering

About the Role: 

 

This application is for a 6-month student role from January - June 2027. Resume review begins in October 2026. 

 

We are seeking a co-op to join the Antibody Discovery group in Biodesign, a division of Therapeutic Modalities at Biogen. The individual will contribute to our mission to characterize antibody drug candidates from primary and optimization campaigns supporting therapeutic neurodegenerative disease programs. In this role, you will be joining a cross-functional team and performing experiments that will directly contribute to achieving drug discovery milestones. 

 

What You’ll Do: 

 

The Antibody Discovery group is responsible for the discovery, characterization, and optimization of antibody therapeutics supporting research programs at Biogen. You will be involved in both discovery and optimization campaigns to nominate lead biologic drug candidates and perform in vitro experiments to biophysically characterize antibody drug candidates and validate clinical targets for cell-specific drug delivery for neurodegenerative and neuromuscular disease indications.  

 

Who You Are: 

 

The ideal candidate will have some experience or familiarity with the following:  

• Cell culture and sterile technique. 

• Molecular cloning methods. 

• Molecular biological techniques such as PCR, qRT-PCR, and DNA/RNA extraction. 

• Plate-based protein binding assays such as ELISA and MSD. 

• Experience with flow cytometry techniques and methods. 

• (Preferred) Experience with biophysical protein binding characterization techniques such as SPR or BLI using Biacore or Octet instruments. 

• (Optional) experience with executing python libraries, running scripts in a HPC environment, and / or training machine learning models with suitable python libraries such as PyTorch, scikit-learn, and TensorFlow. Experience with AI/ML de novo protein design using open source tools is a plus but not required. 

 

To participate in the Biogen Internship or Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria: 

• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. 

• At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date. 

• Currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college, university or skills program/apprenticeship. 

 

Education Requirements 

 

• Pursuing a PhD or Master's degree.   

• Majoring in: Biochemistry, Immunology, Microbiology, Biological/Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $29.00-$33.00

The actual hourly wage offered will consider the candidate’s current academic level and degree candidacy, inclusive of Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s, JD, MD, PhD and MBA programs. It will comply with state or local minimum wage requirements specific to the job location.
