Sodium thiosulfate is an inorganic salt administered by injection that protects against cisplatin-induced ototoxicity by both directly inactivating cisplatin and reducing intracellular oxidative stress through glutathione elevation. It is also indicated for calciphylaxis, a rare, life-threatening condition of vascular calcification. The drug works via dual mechanisms: chelation of platinum species and antioxidant activity within cells.
As a product nearing loss of exclusivity with moderate competitive pressure (30%), the brand team will shift focus toward defending market position and exploring indication expansion or combination strategies.
