LYRICA (pregabalin) is an oral small-molecule anticonvulsant and neuropathic pain medication that binds to the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system. It is approved for six indications including fibromyalgia, epilepsy, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, generalized anxiety disorder, and restless legs syndrome. The drug works by reducing calcium-dependent neurotransmitter release in the spinal cord and modulating descending pain pathways, without directly affecting GABA or opioid receptors.
As LYRICA approaches loss of exclusivity, brand teams face resource contraction with growing emphasis on lifecycle extension strategies and transition planning to support generic erosion management.
