GLUCOTROL (glipizide) is an oral sulfonylurea small-molecule insulin secretagogue approved in 1984 for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and hyperglycemia. It works by binding to sulfonylurea receptors on pancreatic beta cells, closing ATP-sensitive potassium channels and stimulating insulin release. The drug is indicated for Type 2 Diabetes, Hyperglycemia, Chronic Kidney Disease, and Atherosclerosis.
