ACTIVASE (alteplase) is a tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) indicated for thrombolytic therapy in acute myocardial infarction, acute ischemic stroke, and pulmonary embolism. It works by converting plasminogen to plasmin, directly dissolving fibrin clots. This recombinant protein was the first genetically engineered thrombolytic agent approved by the FDA.
