Study Manager

The Study Manager, Laboratory Animals is responsible for projects assigned by a Study Director(s) and/or laboratory management. The Study Manager will ensure that procedures, methods, and data are completed accurately and in accordance with appropriate client protocols, and federal and state regulations.<p style="text-align:inherit"> </p><p><b><i>Responsibilities and Duties</i></b></p><ul><li>Perform simple laboratory tests, evaluations, and/or functions without constant supervision</li><li>Use laboratory equipment of varying complexity requiring a moderate degree of operational skill</li><li>Read and understand a study protocol</li><li>Perform mathematical calculations involving simple algebraic relationships; operate a calculator</li><li>Clean and sanitize caging, equipment, animal room, and support areas</li><li>Maintain laboratory animal colonies and administer test material to animals, record data in laboratory notebooks, data sheets, or by computer entry</li><li>Assemble laboratory apparatus as required for evaluation or analysis and disassemble and clean apparatus at termination of use</li><li>Handle and restrain laboratory animals</li><li>Ability to work with multiple species</li><li>Responsible for blood collection from laboratory species</li><li>Set up and monitor data books</li><li>Responsible for communicating with Study Director(s), as needed, regarding the conduct and daily progress of studies</li><li>Assist in training of other employees when requested</li><li>Participate in in-house training programs for the technical staff</li><li>Maintain confidential information</li><li>Interact with the community and employees</li><li>Support and participate in other company initiatives as directed by management</li><li>Perform other duties as assigned</li></ul><p style="text-align:inherit"> </p><p><b><i>Position Requirements</i></b></p><p><i>Education and experience</i></p><ul><li>High school diploma or equivalent, Completion of certification as an Animal Care Technician (only for promotion within), favorable attitude and disposition toward people and animals, supervisor and/or manager recommendation.</li></ul><p><i>Skills and Abilities</i></p><ul><li>Demonstrated ability to perform varied technical assignments with limited supervision</li><li>Complete knowledge of the facility with calculations necessary for making laboratory preparations</li><li>Skill in handling a variety of laboratory tools and instruments</li><li>Demonstrated self-starting ability and reliability in completing assignments</li><li>Know and understand applicable national and state regulations, with the ability to apply these practices daily</li><li>Ability to work with multiple species</li><li>Understand anatomy of various species</li><li>Proficient in prosection of laboratory species</li><li>Proficient in blood collection</li></ul><p></p><p><b><i>Performance requirements</i></b></p><p><i>Characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.</i></p><p></p><p><i>General </i></p><ul><li>Ability to read, write, speak and understand English</li><li>Ability to read, write and understand oral and/or written instructions</li><li>Able to read and interpret animal identifications, dose groups, and color codes</li><li>Must be willing to work outside of the normal working hours</li></ul><p><i>Physical Activity</i></p><ul><li>This position will require frequent walking, sitting for extended periods of time, carrying, standing, heavy lifting (min. 50 lbs.), reaching while standing, gripping and twisting hand movements, finger control and other general repetitive motions.</li><li>Able to wear latex gloves, dust musk or respirator, and safety glasses as required.</li><li>Bend and lift caging, feed bags, etc. up to 50 lbs. to a height of 5 ft.</li><li>Manual dexterity to catch, hold and dose animals</li><li>Manual dexterity to use a calculator and/or computer</li></ul><p><i>Working Conditions</i></p><ul><li>Frequent involvement with radiant/electrical energy, solvents, grease, oil, irritants, acids, bases, and other hazardous chemicals, electro-mechanical hazards, flammable materials and biohazards. Due to exposure to hazardous biological materials (which may include HIV positive specimens), immunization to diseases may be a required</li><li>Will be exposed to animal dander, bites, scratches, etc., and material associated with animal husbandry</li><li>Able to wear latex gloves, dust musk and/or respirator, and safety glasses as required.</li><li>The noise level is usually moderate to loud requiring ear protection</li><li>Mantoux TB test with negative result is required</li></ul><p></p><p><b><i>Tools, Equipment, &amp; Other Resources Used</i></b></p><ul><li>Various software applications sustained by a Windows platform.
