Staff R&D Engineer, Peripheral Vascular - Sensors

As a Staff R&D Engineer at our Stryker Peripheral Vascular Division, you will be a technical lead on our R&D Concept team. This role will drive the identification, evaluation, and integration of novel sensing technologies into future vascular catheter platforms, with the goal of improving procedural efficiency, physician decision-making, and patient outcomes. Specifically, you will act as a Sensor SME and lead the conception, development, and validation of advanced sensing modalities relevant to our catheter-directed therapies. You will partner closely with physicians, engineering teams, technology suppliers, and strategic collaborators to define requirements, assess technical feasibility, and accelerate the development of breakthrough vascular products.

What You Will Do

• Lead the research, evaluation, and integration of novel sensing technologies and electromechanical systems for next-generation vascular catheter platforms.
• Identify unmet clinical needs and translate physician insights into innovative technical solutions and product concepts.
• Lead concept-stage R&D projects through early feasibility, prototype development, testing, and technology maturation activities.
• Translate clinical and user needs into engineering specifications, system architectures, and subsystem-level designs.
• Research, design, develop, modify, and verify catheter-based medical device components and sensing technologies with minimal supervision.
• Prototype, assemble, test, and rapidly iterate design solutions to validate technical feasibility, system performance, and clinical value.
• Apply engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges involving sensors, signal acquisition, electromechanical systems, and catheter-based therapies.
• Partner closely with physicians, technology suppliers, and cross-functional stakeholders to evaluate emerging technologies and inform development strategies.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation, including Design History Files, risk assessments, and technical reports in compliance with design control procedures.
• Act as a technical leader and subject matter expert, mentoring engineers, driving engineering best practices, and influencing technical strategy across concept-stage projects.

What You Need

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 4 years of medical device product development experience supporting Class II and/or Class III medical devices.
• Experience developing, integrating, or evaluating sensing technologies, electrical architectures, or electromechanical systems within a regulated product development environment.
• Demonstrated experience leading technical projects, feasibility studies, prototype development efforts, verification testing activities, or cross-functional engineering initiatives.
• Experience translating clinical, physician, or user needs into engineering requirements, technical specifications, and product concepts.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks and experience creating engineering documentation and technical drawings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience integrating sensors, electronics, or electromechanical systems into catheter-based medical devices.
• Expertise with sensing technologies such as ultrasound sensing, pressure sensing, RF-based technologies, PFA systems, IVUS, or similar catheter-directed therapies.
• Experience supporting early-stage innovation, concept development, and technology feasibility programs.
• Working knowledge of the medical device product development lifecycle, including concept generation, design controls, verification, validation, and product commercialization.
• Knowledge of CAE, FEA, GD&T, DFM, and medical device materials and manufacturing processes.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and serve as a subject matter expert within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
