Staff R&D Engineer (Mansfield, MA)

If you are driven by innovation, excited by complex technical challenges and motivated to see your work positively impact patients globally, this role offers the opportunity to lead, create and make a meaningful difference.</p><p></p><p><b>What will you be doing?</b></p><ul><li><p>Leading research and technology project teams, providing technical direction and mentoring to engineers</p></li><li><p>Driving concept development, prototyping, product design, feasibility work and verification testing, including writing protocols and reports</p></li><li><p>Developing and validating biomechanical and biological test methods for sports medicine repair devices</p></li><li><p>Creating and maintaining design control documentation including risk assessments, usability, user needs and design inputs</p></li><li><p>Engaging with customers, including surgeons and commercial teams, to understand user needs and observe procedures</p></li><li><p>Supporting patent activities, competitive analysis and product performance testing</p></li><li><p>Guiding products through development phases supporting scale up toward commercialization</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>What will you need to be successful?</b></p><ul><li><p>BS degree with 8 years&#39; experience, MS with 3 years or PhD with 1 year in engineering, science or related field, or equivalent combination</p></li><li><p>Strong expertise in product design, prototyping and testing</p></li><li><p>Ability to work independently, applying sound judgment and offering innovative solutions</p></li><li><p>Experience developing test methodologies and authoring technical documentation</p></li><li><p>Strong communication skills for presenting research internally and externally</p></li><li><p>Knowledge of design controls and regulatory expectations including PMA and BLA pathways</p></li><li><p>Advanced statistical analysis skills including Minitab</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>You Unlimited. </b></p><p>We believe in creating the greatest good for society. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role at Smith &#43; Nephew. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
