How will you make an impact?

The Sr Product Quality Engineer is responsible for driving product quality excellence throughout the lifecycle of AAT instruments. This role serves as the quality representative for commercialized products, partnering closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Supplier Quality, and Product Management to ensure products consistently meet customer expectations and business objectives. The Sr Product Quality Engineer analyzes quality performance, leads root cause investigations, drives corrective and preventive actions, and supports continuous improvement initiatives that enhance reliability, customer satisfaction, and operational performance. This position plays a critical role in protecting the customer experience and advancing Thermo Fisher's Mission to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.

 

What will you do?

Product Quality Ownership

• Monitor and analyze product quality metrics including customer complaints, field failures, warranty performance and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).

• Identify quality trends and emerging risks through data analysis and cross-functional review.

• Lead periodic product quality reviews and communicate quality performance to leadership teams.

• Develop and execute quality improvement strategies to improve product reliability and customer satisfaction.

• Coordinate investigations of customer complaints, escalations, and field performance issues.

• Partner with Product Support, Manufacturing, and R&D sustaining teams to determine root causes and implement effective corrective actions.

• Utilize structured problem-solving methodologies including 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, and statistical analysis tools.

• Ensure timely completion of investigations and effective closure of corrective actions.

• Evaluate customer impact and recommend appropriate containment actions when necessary.

• Lead cross-functional CAPA activities associated with product and customer quality issues.

 

 Manufacturing and Operations Quality Support

• Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to address product and process quality issues.

• Participate in quality assessments for manufacturing transfers, process improvements, and operational changes.

 

 Product Lifecycle and Change Management

• Participate in change control activities, evaluating quality risks associated with product, process, software, and supplier changes.

• Review Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), deviations, and supplier change notifications.

• Support risk assessments and validation activities required to implement product changes.

• Ensure quality considerations are appropriately incorporated into lifecycle management decisions.

 New Product Design

• Drive Quality Deliverables for NPDI products

• Analyze reliability data and field performance metrics to identify opportunities for product improvement.

• Support NPDI, Design for Reliability and Design for Manufacturability initiatives by providing lessons learned from field quality and complaints data.

• Lead risk assessments including DFMEA, PFMEA, and reliability reviews.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry or technical field required.

Experience

Required:

• 3-5 years of experience in Quality Engineering, Product Quality, Manufacturing Quality, Reliability Engineering, or related technical role.

• Experience leading root cause investigations and corrective actions in a manufacturing environment.

• Experience working in cross-functional teams supporting complex technical products.

Preferred:

• Experience supporting analytical instrumentation, laboratory equipment, chromatography systems.

• Experience with electro-mechanical systems, fluidics, detectors, electronics, software-controlled instrumentation, or scientific equipment.

• Experience supporting manufacturing transfer projects and product lifecycle management activities.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Knowledge of quality engineering tools including CAPA, 8D, FMEA, SPC, and statistical analysis methods.

• Ability to analyze large datasets and translate findings into actionable improvements.

• Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across multiple functions.

• Demonstrated ability to lead complex investigations and drive sustainable solutions.
