Job Description
As a Senior Procurement Engineer based in the Philips Innovation Center in Shenzhen, you act as a Value Architect at the intersection of product development and business value for Personal Health devices (Shavers, Groomers, IPL and wellness tech). You lead DfX and value engineering, drive early supplier involvement, and ensure sourcing readiness from early concept through industrialization and lifecycle optimization—designing-in cost, quality, sustainability and resilience. Working closely with R&D, Marketing, Quality, SCM, Commodity Management and strategic suppliers, you translate product choices into clear supplier requirements, should-cost and BOM cost governance, and fact-based recommendations that accelerate time-to-market and improve total cost of ownership. You help advance procurement transformation by applying data-driven, digital and AI-enabled ways of working in a fast-paced, cross-functional innovation environment.

This Senior Procurement Engineering role is for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of product development and business value. You will act as a Value Architect, shaping product architectures and supplier strategies from early concept through industrialization and lifecycle optimization, ensuring we deliver sustainable value for people, consumers and the planet.
This is procurement at the front end: design-in value, engineer-out waste, de-risk supply, and scale innovation with strategic suppliers.
Your impact
As Senior Procurement Engineer, you will lead value creation in innovation and development programs by combining:
- Technical depth (mechanical/electrical design understanding; manufacturing and industrialization insight)
- Commercial sharpness (cost modelling, should-cost, TCO/NPV thinking, sourcing strategy)
- Influence and stakeholder leadership (driving buy in for DfX activities and drive decisions across R&D, Marketing, Quality, SCM and Procurement)
- Supplier co-creation (early supplier involvement, design-in, and innovation partnerships)
You will be a key driver in translating product choices into clear supplier requirements and sourcing-ready packages—enabling Commodity Management to execute at speed and with maximum value.
What you will do
1) Lead Design for eXcellence (DfX) and value engineering in product creation (concept → launch → lifecycle)
- Drive concept savings and structural cost improvements in advanced development, NPI and platform development.
- Lead DfX / Design for Excellence conventions (DfMA, Tear Down & Competitor benchmarking, Concept Scoping, Feature Value Analysis, modularity, standardization, sustainability-by-design).
- Define and govern target cost trajectories and ensure decisions are fact-based and value-optimized with our consumer needs in mind.
2) Execute early supplier involvement
- Orchestrate co-design, design-in and cost-down workshops with strategic suppliers in Asia and globally.
- Bring supplier level requirements, capabilities and insights via our business marketing team, architects, system engineers via our commodity teams towards our strategic suppliers. Enabling our business roadmap in line with the business strategy.
- Bring supplier technology and capability insights via our commodity management teams into roadmaps and architecture trade-offs.
- Ensure robust industrialization readiness: capability, scalability, yield, quality, lead times, and resilience.
3) Build sourcing readiness and support supplier selection
- Drive RFQ inputs for NPI towards commodity teams, aligned with marketing, program management, architecture and system engineers; ensure comparability and transparency.
- Partner with Commodity Teams to run the Supplier Selection Process with data-backed recommendations, providing the key criteria required and defined by the business and product requirements.
4) Own the product cost and BOM cost governance
- Partner with our cost engineers and trigger creation for should-cost models, manage cost breakdowns paretos for optimal cost understanding and prioritization of value creation and cost down activities, and target-cost tracking for key commodities/modules.
- Identify strategic cost reduction opportunities planning DfX activities and competitive bidding roadmaps across the product portfolio and lifecycle.
- Provide fact-based insights to negotiation teams to drive structural cost reduction and improved TCO.
5) Embed quality, compliance, sustainability and lifecycle performance
- Support Supplier Quality in APQP and new component release by providing optimized products/component requirements, including compliance and sustainability with eye on value optimization.
- Ensure requirements for verification methods and tactics are integrated early, reducing late-stage surprises.
- Support our planners in strategizing Phase-In/Phase-Out (PIPO) planning and lifecycle cost optimization.
6) Accelerate procurement transformation with digital and AI-enabled ways of working
- Contribute to the evolution of Procurement Engineering: data-driven, fast, scalable, and collaborative.
- Apply modern tooling and automation to improve speed and quality of sourcing inputs and value analytics.
What you bring
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering or similar.
- 7–10+ years in product development engineering, procurement engineering, value engineering, industrialization, or technical sourcing—within consumer electronics / personal care / electromechanical products preferred.
- Proven track record leading DfX / Value Engineering and driving measurable cost and design improvements.
- Strong competence in should-costing, cost driver analysis, and translating technical choices into commercial impact.
- Strong stakeholder management: able to influence across functions and cultures; confident in decision forums.
- Experience working with Asian supply base ecosystems and global cross-functional teams.
- Fluent in Mandarin and English
- Willingness to travel as needed (20%).
Nice to have (future-ready differentiators)
- Experience with LLM/AI prompting for structured analysis, synthesis, RFQ preparation and decision narratives.
- Familiarity with MCP concepts or tool-integrated workflows; ability to adopt agentic workflows quickly.
- Exposure to advanced cost modelling methods (price performance analysis, parametric models, benchmarking, learning curves).
- Sustainability expertise (materials choices, circularity, recycled content, carbon/footprint thinking).
Your team and environment
You will be embedded in the Philips Innovation Center in Shenzhen, working side-by-side with our cross-functional innovation community (R&D, Marketing, Quality, SCM) and connected into the global Direct Procurement organization. You report to the Procurement Engineering Lead and collaborate closely with Commodity Management and strategic suppliers.
