General Description:
The Sr. Manager/Associate Director in Global Medical Affairs will serve as a Program Manager for the JAPAC Medical teams in both solid tumors and hematology franchises, partnering with Country Medical Directors and Field Medical teams on all aspects of medical strategy development and execution.
The Sr. Manager/Associate Director will be accountable for managing cross-functional engagement of the JAPAC Medical teams for the solid tumors and hematology franchise with members from Field Medical, Medical Value & Outcomes, Scientific Communications, Learning, Development & Content, Medical Information, IIT, and HEOR. This role will work closely with the global medical teams and cross-functionally with Clinical Development, Commercial, Compliance, and Finance. This role will facilitate the delivery of JAPAC Medical Plans, which describe the medical strategy and tactics for the hematology and solid tumor franchise and will support activities aligned with Long Range Planning and Annual Operating Planning.
The Sr. Manager/Associate Director will ensure the delivery of results on-time and within budget, while driving effective communication within the team and to key global stakeholders. As an integral member of the growing New Markets team, the Sr. Manager/Associate Director will also influence projects and initiatives beyond the JAPAC Medical team by driving development, standardization, harmonization, and optimization of processes across GMA functions.
The ideal candidate is a problem solver with a strong Medical Affairs Operations background who can see the big picture while enabling global execution. The candidate must be an excellent communicator with exceptional skills in organizing and synthesizing information. Additionally, the candidate should thrive in an entrepreneurial environment and demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness. Lastly, the candidate should be comfortable coordinating across multiple time zones, motivating individuals from diverse cultures, and promoting similarities across disparate regulatory jurisdictions.

Essential Functions of the job:
By partnering with JAPAC Country Medical Directors, the Sr. Manager/Associate Director will be responsible for developing and managing the execution of the JAPAC Medical Strategy and Plans for the hematology and solid tumors franchises.
Proactively identifies critical milestones, interdependencies, risks, and resource constraints that could impact plans/timelines and collaborates with teams to develop appropriate mitigation strategies
Effectively and quickly establishes rapport with all key internal/external partners and stakeholders and influences stakeholders without authority
Creates and maintains project timelines that are critical tools for tracking progress against goals; closely and transparently manages the critical path of projects
Effectively communicates actions, decisions, timelines, risks, and changes to any program strategies or plans
Optimizes communication within and between teams, and at varying organizational levels
Drives the use of consistent project management tools and practices
Adept at learning new technologies and platforms
Effectively manages and/or facilitates various meetings and manages meeting documentation (agendas, minutes, action/decision trackers, ad-hoc sessions, etc.)
Promotes a sense of cultural commonality and familiarity across JAPAC Medical Affairs
Consistently demonstrates cultural awareness to promote an inclusive culture
Actively cultivates the sharing of global best practices amongst JAPAC Medical Affairs and beyond
Partners with non-GMA stakeholders (e.g., Finance, Legal, Compliance, etc.) to drive execution
Develops and delivers critical presentations to communicate medical strategy and plans
Comfortable developing and tracking global budgets
Leads and supports continuous improvement efforts by identifying cross-project opportunities/dependencies/efficiencies, assessing key performance metrics, and seeks to socialize global best practices
Ensures compliance with corporate policies and procedures, as well as JAPAC healthcare laws and regulations
Qualification Required:
Education/Experience Required:
6-9(Senior Manager)/10~12+(Associate Director) years of experience within the pharmaceutical, biotech or life sciences industry with a Bachelor’s degree. Advanced degrees (Master’s Degree, PhD, PharmD) are a plus.
Computer Skills:
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word, Teams) is required.
Proficiency (or familiarity with an ability to learn quickly) in Smartsheet is required.
Familiarity with Salesforce/CRM is desired.
Familiarity with Veeva is desired.
Other Qualifications:
Industry experience – A strong understanding of the biotech/pharmaceutical industry and previous drug development experience is required. Drug development experience within Medical Affairs is preferred, but acceptable in other functions (e.g., Clinical Development). Oncology development experience preferred.
Strategic Thinking – Possesses the ability to both see the big picture and drill down on details; think strategically and execute tactical plans
Meeting Management – Excellent meeting planning and facilitation skills, particularly for global meetings.
Project Management – Highly proficient at both building and maintaining Gantt charts, tracking systems, spreadsheets, dashboards, and automations that support a systematic and scalable approach to managing projects
Project Management - Creates and maintains project timelines that are critical tools for tracking progress against goals; closely and transparently manages the critical path of projects
Problem Solving – A proactive and effective problem solver who partners well with others; proven ability to manage complex and challenging situations to drive to clarity
Communicator - Effectively communicates actions, decisions, timelines, risks, and changes to plans
Business Sense - Has a strong business sense and can decipher priorities and make sound judgment calls when needed
Initiative and Resourcefulness – Works independently, anticipates the needs of JAPAC Medical Directors to help mitigate problems in advance, and solves problems with limited guidance/direction
Communication - Excellent writing and oral communication skills; ability to present key information objectively and in an organized fashion
Team Player – Has a team-oriented, collaborative, and entrepreneurial approach to their work
Excellence in Execution – Ability to execute accurately and with a sense of urgency; strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Project Management certification is a plus
Travel:
Work-related travel will be less than 10%. Overtime and weekend travel may be required on occasion.
