Position Summary:
The Senior Director, Commercial Finance, APAC serves as the primary finance partner and strategic advisor to the Head of Region and General Managers across the APAC region. As the commercial finance leader for APAC, this role provides financial leadership, business insights, and strategic guidance to drive growth, profitability, and long-term value creation.
As a key member of the APAC Leadership Team, this individual influences business strategy, investment decisions, resource allocation, and performance management across a diverse and complex regional portfolio. The role balances strategic business partnership with financial stewardship, ensuring sustainable growth while maintaining strong governance and compliance.
This position also serves on the Global Commercial Finance Leadership Team, playing a critical role within the broader Finance community and bringing a dual mandate to shape both APAC commercial priorities and global finance strategy.
Position Responsibilities:
Strategic Business Partnership and Leadership
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the APAC Head of Region, General Managers, and APAC Commercial Leadership Team.
- Influence business strategy and key decisions through data-driven insights, financial analysis, and commercial acumen.
- Provide independent perspectives and constructive challenge to optimize business performance and investment decisions.
- Partner with leaders to identify growth opportunities, improve profitability, and manage business risks.
Financial Planning, Analysis & Decision Support
- Lead financial planning, forecasting, and performance management for the APAC Commercial organization.
- Drive strategic planning and resource allocation to support growth and maximize return on investment.
- Evaluate commercial initiatives, business cases, pricing strategies, and investment opportunities.
- Monitor business performance and recommend actions to improve revenue, margin, and operating results.
Regional & Team Leadership
- Actively contribute as a member of the APAC Commercial Leadership Team, helping shape regional priorities and business strategy.
- Serve as a member of the Global Commercial Finance Leadership Team, representing APAC perspectives and helping shape global finance priorities, capabilities, and ways of working.
- Influence and lead across a matrixed organization to deliver strategic and financial objectives.
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing APAC finance team.
- Build organizational capability and succession pipelines.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and business partnership
Governance, Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure strong financial controls, governance, compliance, and ethical business practices.
- Identify and mitigate financial, operational, and commercial risks.

Position Requirements:
- 15+ years of progressive finance leadership experience within multinational organizations.
- Proven track record partnering with senior commercial leaders to drive business performance and strategic decisions.
- Experience leading finance teams in complex, matrixed, multi-country environments.
- Strong commercial finance, business partnering, and performance management experience.
- APAC regional experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of financial modelling and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Excellent financial and business acumen and an entrepreneurial mindset
- Critical thinking and strong aptitude for risk assessment
- Strong organizational skills, prioritization skills, and attention to detail
- Demonstrate ability to understand and solve complex problems
- Experience in leading, coaching & developing a high performing team

Preferred Experience/Education/Skills:
- Requires Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related field.
- Typically has 20+ years of related experience, with 12+ years of applicable management experience as assessed by Illumina Executive Staff.
- Broad knowledge of all areas within particular Corporate sub-function or a function within an operation.
- Typically has depth of technical knowledge in function derived from experience in non-management and middle management roles.
- Requires high level understanding of markets and sales opportunities for the company’s products.
