Role Overview

A Linux Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting Linux infrastructure that enables an organization's IT systems and services to run smoothly. This includes working with hardware, networking, virtualization, cloud environments, and security systems to ensure the organization's IT infrastructure is efficient, reliable, and scalable. Infrastructure engineers often work closely with software engineers, IT support teams, and system administrators to optimize performance, mitigate risks, and deliver high-quality services to end-users.

What will you do in this role:

• Manage the design, procurement, installation, upgrading, operation, control, maintenance, and effective use of the Linux platform and services to support same.

• Follow standard approaches and established design patterns to create new designs for systems or system components.  Apply agreed standards and tools to achieve a well-engineered result.

• Carry out and also improve system software development and maintenance tasks by updating the product design to automate routine tasks using standard tools and software development practices.

• Contribute to identification and prioritized adoption of Technology Engineering community practices within the products where you work.

• Participate in Product planning, execution, and delivery, ensuring alignment with Product goals.

What should you have:

• Primary skill- Linux, Ansible playbooks, VMWare virtualization and/or working with a cloud provider.

• Secondary Skill- Bash shell scripting, python, git, familiarity with additional clouds, multiple Linux distributions
• Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science or any Technology stream.
• Understanding of at least one, if not several, Linux distributions, and how they work.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience working with Linux servers.
• Experience with traditional disaster recovery & data backup solutions (Commvault, Acronis).
• Cloud and Virtualization Platforms: Proficiency in virtualization (VMWare, Nutanix) and familiarity with cloud (AWS, Azure) platforms.
• Networking: Understanding of virtual networks, VPNs, and firewalls.
• Scripting and Automation: Skills in bash and ansible scripting, including complex ansible roles.   
• DevOps practices: Experience with Git, infrastructure as code (IaC), observability, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD). Familiarity with agile practices and the Atlassian stack.
• Security Best Practices: Familiarity with IT security practices and compliance.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues. Demonstrated ability to think independently and do basic troubleshooting without direction. 
• Product and customer-centric approach. A self-starter who will work with stakeholders and take ownership of issues.
• Experience with other programming languages (Python) is a nice to have.
