Software Engineer

As a Software Engineer within our Digital Product Engineering team, you'll help build and evolve the cloud-based platforms and services that power connected healthcare experiences around the world. Working within our Internet of Things (IoT) team, you'll develop scalable, cloud-native applications that support device lifecycle management, device connectivity, therapy data access, and internal tools that help support teams assist patients more effectively.

This is an opportunity to work across the full product development lifecycle, from design and development through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing support. You'll collaborate with product managers, engineers, and cross-functional partners to solve complex challenges while delivering reliable, high-quality solutions that scale.

This is a remote-first role with an expectation that candidates are located within reasonable driving distance of our Halifax office for occasional in-person collaboration. 

You'll join a highly collaborative IoT engineering team focused on cloud services, connectivity, and operational excellence, with opportunities to contribute across both backend and frontend development.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and monitor cloud-native applications and services in AWS.
• Build and enhance solutions that support device registration, connectivity, lifecycle management, and cloud integration.
• Develop full-stack capabilities across backend services and user-facing applications.
• Collaborate with Technical Product Managers, Delivery Managers, and engineering teammates on planning, estimation, and solution design.
• Contribute to proof-of-concepts, technical spikes, and exploration of new technologies and approaches.
• Review code and provide constructive feedback to help maintain engineering quality and consistency.
• Champion quality through automated testing, performance validation, security practices, and CI/CD processes.
• Define and monitor product success metrics and operational performance indicators.
• Implement infrastructure-as-code practices and contribute to resilient, reliable system architectures.
• Support applications in production and take ownership throughout the full lifecycle of the products you build.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to identify problems, evaluate options, and deliver practical solutions.
• Mentor interns and early-career engineers while contributing to a collaborative team culture.

What You Bring

• Experience developing applications using Java, Python, and React.
• Strong understanding of software design patterns, algorithms, and engineering fundamentals.
• Experience building secure, scalable, fault-tolerant cloud-native applications.
• Experience with messaging and notification technologies such as Amazon MQ, SQS, SNS, or EventBridge.
• Experience with Kubernetes orchestration and container-based architectures.
• Experience with AWS technologies such as Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, Docker, and related services.
• Experience using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or Puppet.
• Experience with continuous integration and deployment practices using tools such as GitHub and Jenkins.
• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Strong debugging, testing, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience using observability and monitoring platforms such as DataDog, CloudWatch, or Splunk.
• Commitment to secure coding practices and resolving security vulnerabilities.
• Experience leveraging AI tools to improve engineering delivery while maintaining quality, traceability, and engineering standards.

Nice to have

• AWS Developer or DevOps certification.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and technologies such as Kafka, EventBridge, or Timestream.
• Experience with modern test automation tools.
• Exposure to AI/ML technologies.
• Experience working within a regulated medical or healthcare environment.
