Senior Scientist – Manufacturing Science & Technology

We are looking for a <b>Senior Scientist</b> to join our chemical team in <b>Manufacturing Science &amp; Technology (MS&amp;T)</b> team at our <b>Weesp site in the Netherlands</b>.</p><p>In this role, you will act as a <b>technical subject matter expert</b> supporting established pharmaceutical products across their lifecycle. You will work closely with manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and external partners to ensure robust processes, compliant operations, and continuous improvement.</p><p>This position offers a high level of scientific autonomy and the opportunity to influence manufacturing strategies for products supplied globally.</p><div></div><p><b>What you’ll do</b></p><ul><li>Provide expert technical support to resolve manufacturing and analytical issues for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs)</li><li>Design, execute, and interpret laboratory and plant‑scale experiments to improve process performance, yields, cost efficiency, and product quality</li><li>Support process scale‑up from laboratory or pilot scale to commercial manufacturing</li><li>Actively contribute to cross‑functional teams during development, tech transfer, commercial launch, and troubleshooting activities</li><li>Prepare, review, and approve high‑quality technical documentation supporting manufacturing, quality investigations, and regulatory submissions</li><li>Collaborate with and oversee external partners such as Contract Research Organizations (CROs) and third‑party manufacturers</li><li>Represent MS&amp;T as a scientific expert in product support and manufacturing workstreams</li><li>Mentor and support the development of junior scientists and share knowledge across teams</li><li>Ensure compliance with GMP, safety standards, and global regulatory requirements (FDA, EMA, ICH)</li></ul><div></div><p><b>What you’ll bring</b></p><ul><li>A scientific degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline with a preference for organic chemistry:<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree with 5–8 years of relevant experience, <b>or</b></li><li>Master’s degree with 3–6 years of experience, <b>or</b></li><li>PhD / PharmD with 1–3 years of experience</li></ul></li><li>Strong experience in chemical manufacturing, process development, MS&amp;T, or analytical sciences</li><li>Solid understanding of <b>cGMP environments</b> and <b>CMC requirements</b></li><li>Proven ability to independently solve complex technical problems</li><li>Experience with process optimization, scale‑up, and technology transfer</li><li>Strong scientific writing skills and the ability to communicate complex data clearly</li><li>A collaborative, proactive mindset and the ability to work effectively in cross‑functional and international teams</li><li>Fluency in English (written and spoken)</li></ul><div></div><p><b>Why Abbott</b></p><ul><li>Make a real impact by supporting <b>established medicines used by patients worldwide</b></li><li>Work in a scientifically challenging role with a high degree of autonomy</li><li>Be part of a collaborative, international environment at the <b>Weesp manufacturing site</b></li><li>Opportunities for professional growth, learning, and cross‑site collaboration</li><li>Competitive compensation and benefits in line with the Dutch market</li></ul><div></div><p><b>About the location</b></p><p>Abbott’s <b>Weesp site</b> is a key manufacturing and technical hub in the Netherlands, supporting global supply of pharmaceutical products.
