Senior Research Associate

The Senior Research Associate is responsible for providing laboratory support to the assay development team using biochemical techniques such as spectrophotometry, enzymology, and antibody conjugation, as well as the processing of biological materials for analysis. A successful candidate will have experience in running microplate assays with various readout modalities, including colorimetric, fluorometric and/or luminometric assays in a medium-to-high throughput format. The candidate will be tasked with screening antibodies, conjugates, enzymes, cofactors and buffers to be employed in ELISAs and homogeneous biochemical assay kits. Applicants may be considered for either a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate position depending upon prior experience and level of expertise.

This position reports to the Head of Biochemical Assays and is part of the Biochemical and Immunoassay team located in Eugene, OR and will be an on-site role. At Abcam, our vision is to be the most influential life sciences company for researchers worldwide.

The essential requirements of the job include:

• B.S. in Biochemistry or related life-science discipline
• 1 year of relevant laboratory experience
• Basic proficiency in data analysis tools, including Microsoft Office and non-linear curve-fitting software (e.g. GraphPad Prism)

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Perform and/or support laboratory experiments required for assay development
• Assist in validation of enzymes, proteins and antibodies for assay development
• Work with biological specimens such as plasma/serum and tissue samples
• Troubleshoot technical issues that may arise in assay kit development or production
• Maintain laboratory records, write and modify SOPs and support process improvements

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

• Ability to travel 10%, overnight, within territory or locations
• Ability to lift, move or carry equipment up to 25lb.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Experience in microplate-based assay design/development
• Knowledge of enzymology/pharmacology and binding/reaction kinetics
• 1+ year working in an industrial lab setting
