OPPORTUNITY

PacBio is developing data and analytics products built on our highly accurate sequencing technology. These products will combine PacBio-generated data, complementary information, and modern analytics to help life sciences customers address important research and development questions.

We are seeking an experienced product manager to shape strategy, learn from customers, define what we build, and work across PacBio to bring products to market.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Senior Product Manager, you will own the strategy and roadmap for emerging life sciences data products.

You will understand customer goals, workflows, and challenges, then translate them into product priorities and requirements. You will partner across scientific, technical, operational, and commercial teams to deliver customer and business value.

You will define how customers use and access data, including supported use cases, sharing and export options, privacy, and data-use rights. You will also define pricing based on customer value and usage. You will work closely with Business Development to identify data partners.

This senior individual contributor role requires comfort moving among scientific details, technical architecture, customer needs, governance, and commercial considerations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Product strategy and roadmap: Define vision, target customers, positioning, and roadmap based on customer needs, market conditions, technical capabilities, data availability, and business objectives.
• Customer discovery: Lead customer conversations, discovery, demonstrations, pilots, and feedback sessions. Understand scientific goals, technical requirements, buying criteria, data-use needs, and alternatives.
• Product definition: Translate needs into requirements, target product profiles, launch criteria, and success metrics. Define experiences for discovering, accessing, analyzing, and using scientific data.
• Cross-functional product development: Partner with sequencing, laboratory operations, bioinformatics, data, cloud, and software teams to ensure products are scientifically sound, technically feasible, scalable, and operationally deliverable.
• Data use and commercial access model: Define supported use cases, permitted analyses, derivative-use rights, export and sharing capabilities, retention, and restrictions. Partner with legal, privacy, security, scientific, and commercial teams to define practical requirements for access, permissions, data separation, monitoring, and compliance.
• Business development and partnerships: Partner with Business Development to evaluate data partners and shape value propositions. Lead product requirements, technical alignment, delivery milestones, and acceptance criteria for product-related partnerships.
• Pricing and value attribution: Define customer value and recommend pricing and packaging models, including value attribution to PacBio and data partners.
• Execution and commercialization: Guide products from concept through launch and improvement. Define milestones, dependencies, risks, launch criteria, and success metrics. Support business cases, forecasts, agreements, proposals, and sales enablement.
• Executive communication: Clearly communicate priorities, decisions, progress, risks, and commercial implications.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience; an advanced scientific or business degree is a plus.
• Seven or more years of product management or related leadership experience, including defining and launching complex data, software, or platform products for enterprise customers.
• Experience in genomics, biopharma, healthcare data, bioinformatics, diagnostics, or another technically complex life sciences field.
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms, analytical environments, data governance, privacy, security, and data-use controls.
• Experience developing value propositions, pricing and packaging models, business cases, forecasts, or product economics.
• Experience supporting business development, strategic partnerships, enterprise sales, complex data agreements, or data licensing.
• Strong product judgment, analytical ability, and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence scientific, technical, commercial, legal, and executive stakeholders without direct authority.

Candidates must have current authorization to work in the United States without the need for present or future sponsorship.

Non-Field Based Employees are required to be onsite Monday-Thursday (Friday work from home). Depending on the role, some employees may be required to be 100% onsite.

Salary Range:

$128,800.00 - $193,200.00
