Job ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Principal Clinical Programmer (DM SAS) serves as a senior technical expert and program-level leader within Clinical Programming. This role provides strategic oversight, advanced SAS expertise, and mentorship across multiple studies and programs. The position is accountable for complex SAS macro development, code optimization, cloud-based SAS environments (Azure), and advanced troubleshooting, while also driving process improvements, standardization initiatives, and project oversight.<h2></h2><h2>Key Responsibilities</h2><ul><li>Act as senior technical SME for DM SAS programming, including advanced SAS macro development and optimization.</li><li>Design, develop, validate, and maintain complex SAS programs and reusable macro frameworks.</li><li>Provide advanced troubleshooting for SAS macro-related issues, including root cause analysis and long-term remediation.</li><li>Demonstrate strong understanding of SAS Azure cloud model and support cloud-based programming environments.</li><li>Provide program-level oversight across multiple studies or large, complex programs.</li><li>Serve as Lead Clinical Programmer or Program Programming Lead as required.</li><li>Review and ensure quality, compliance, and consistency of multi-study and program-level deliverables.</li><li>Support project planning, resource forecasting, bid defenses, and change order assessments.</li><li>Demonstrate working knowledge of SAS Viya and its application in clinical programming workflows.</li><li>Lead or contribute to process improvement, automation, and code standardization initiatives.</li><li>Mentor, coach, and provide technical guidance to Principal, Lead, and Senior Clinical Programmers.</li><li>Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and represent Clinical Programming during audits and inspections.</li></ul>QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.<h2>Experience Requirements</h2><ul><li>8 to 10+ years of progressive experience in Clinical Programming / DM SAS.</li><li>Demonstrated experience in project-level or program-level oversight roles.</li></ul>Required (Must-Have) Skills<ul><li>Advanced SAS macro development expertise</li><li>SAS code optimization and performance tuning</li><li>Understanding of SAS Azure cloud model</li><li>Advanced troubleshooting competency for SAS macro and programming issues</li></ul><h2>Good-to-Have Skills</h2><ul><li>SAS Viya understanding and exposure</li><li>Lead Clinical Programmer or Program Programming Lead experience</li><li>Code standardization and framework development</li><li>Project oversight experience and process improvement leadership</li></ul>Get to know Syneos Health Over the past 5 years, we have worked with 94% of all Novel FDA Approved Drugs, 95% of EMA Authorized Products and over 200 Studies across 73,000 Sites and 675,000+ Trial patients.No matter what your role is, you’ll take the initiative and challenge the status quo with us in a highly competitive and ever-changing environment.
