Position Summary
The Senior Director, Global Medical Neuroscience – Medical Product Lead (MPL) for Specialty Neurology is a senior medical leader within the Global Medical Neuroscience organization. This role provides strategic direction and cross-functional leadership for worldwide medical activities across Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron assets driving both launch excellence and lifecycle management across global markets.
The Senior Director will shape the global Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron assets medical strategy, advance BMS's scientific leadership in the related space, and cultivate the partnerships needed to transform outcomes for patients living with Multiple Sclerosis and Spasticity conditions. This role will lead and develop a team of Medical Strategy professionals and serve as a key voice in portfolio strategy and cross-functional decision-making.
This position reports to the Disease Area Head, Neurology
Key Responsibilities
Medical Product Leadership & Strategy
- Define and champion the global Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron medical strategy, with primary focus on Multiple Sclerosis & Spasticity medical strategy, ensuring full alignment with BMS enterprise objectives, portfolio priorities, and the broader Neurology disease area vision.
- Serve as the senior Medical Product Lead and primary medical authority for the Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron franchise, providing strategic vision and oversight for all worldwide medical activities from early development through commercialization and lifecycle management.
- Architect, communicate, and drive execution of the worldwide medical strategy for Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron medical strategy, including planning, execution, and governance for new launches and ongoing commercialization.
- Design and oversee worldwide advisory boards with globally recognized Thought Leaders.
- Provide strategic input and medical counsel to the Early Differentiation team for early-stage Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron pipeline assets, leveraging synergies with the broader Neuroscience portfolio.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Stakeholder Leadership
- Serve as the senior integrator across Medical SMEs, Brand teams, Local Medical leads, and cross-functional stakeholders including Commercial, Regulatory, Safety, Labeling, Supply & Manufacturing, and Quality & Compliance.
- Partner at a senior level across Commercial, Market Access, Regulatory, R&D, and HEOR functions, ensuring medical perspectives are fully embedded in Brand Planning, launch readiness, and global commercialization strategies.
- Define and align regional medical affairs strategies across Major Markets and Intercontinental regions in close partnership with clinical development, market access, and commercial leadership, with particular attention to the heterogeneous regulatory and diagnostic landscape across Multiple Sclerosis & Spasticity markets.
- Represent the Multiple Sclerosis & Spasticity franchise, in senior cross-functional forums, contributing to portfolio-level decisions and enterprise planning processes.
Late-Life Cycle & Portfolio Strategy
- Own the strategy for late-life cycle medical activities and maintenance programs (e.g., labeling, safety, quality) for non-commercialized Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron assets within the portfolio.
- Monitor and translate the rapidly evolving treatment landscape — including competitive intelligence, emerging science, and regulatory trends — into differentiated and actionable medical strategies.
- Contribute to pipeline prioritization and strategic asset development decisions in partnership with the Disease Area Head for Neurology.
Budget & Resource Stewardship
- Serve as a senior owner of the Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron medical strategy budget, responsible for budget planning, resource allocation, and disciplined execution against defined priorities and financial targets.
- Ensure responsible stewardship of resources across the medical team in alignment with organizational priorities.
Scientific & External Leadership
- Lead Thought Leader identification, mapping, profiling, and engagement strategy across the global Multiple Sclerosis & Spasticity space, driving a differentiated and impactful external engagement approach.
- Build and sustain senior-level relationships with global key opinion leaders, professional neurology and Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron societies, and patient advocacy organizations.
- Provide senior medical vision and oversight to congress strategies field medical plans, home office training, TL engagement programs, and the broader Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron medical strategy.
- Serve as a senior external-facing representative of BMS, presenting scientific data and strategy at major medical congresses, advisory boards, and scientific forums.
Serve as the enterprise expert on pathophysiology, diagnosis, emerging treatment paradigms, and unmet medical needs in Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron assets — informing pivotal medical, scientific, and business decisions. Medical Data Generation & Evidence Leadership
- Define and oversee the Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron assets medical data generation strategy, including Phase 4 programs, ISR initiatives, publication plans, and scientific congress dissemination — positioning BMS as a leader Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron evidence generation and scientific credibility.
- Oversee and support BMS-sponsored clinical and non-registrational research activities, including the design and execution of real-world evidence generation strategies relevant to MS and Spasticity populations.
Organizational Capability & People Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of medical professionals within the Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron assets franchise, fostering a high-performance, inclusive, and collaborative culture.
- Provide coaching, performance management, and development planning to direct reports across a multicultural, matrixed global environment.
- Build organizational capability by identifying talent needs, championing team development initiatives, and contributing to the strategic development of the WW medical organization's capabilities in Neuroimmune, Neuromuscular, and Motor neuron assets.
- Lead the design and delivery of advanced training curriculum and content for medical team members and market field medical associates as appropriate.
- Model and champion BMS Values and the highest standards of scientific integrity in all activities.
Compliance & Operational Excellence
- Partner with stakeholders on medical activities including labeling, safety surveillance, scientific advisory boards, congress support, real-world data generation, and publications, ensuring the highest quality deliverables.
- Ensure all activities meet the highest standards of integrity and compliance with BMS Values, job-specific SOPs, and work instructions.
- Complete all assigned SOPs and training within designated timeframes and adhere to all relevant compliance standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: M.D., D.O., PhD, or equivalent advanced degree in a life science discipline, clinical neuroscience education highly preferred. Specialization in Neurology, Neuroscience education is strongly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 9 years of progressive experience in the clinical research, healthcare, pharmaceutical/life science industry within neurology is needed.
- Industry Expertise: Deep knowledge of biopharma drug development and commercialization. Strong background in pharmaceutical operations including medical affairs, clinical development, regulatory, and advocacy. At least 5 years of medical affairs (WW or US) experience specific to Multiple Sclerosis, Spasticity, or Neuroimmune, Motor neuron, Neuromuscular conditions is highly preferred.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead at a senior level — driving strategic vision, building organizational alignment, managing and developing teams, and influencing senior enterprise stakeholders in a matrixed global environment.
- Strategic Thinking: Proven senior-level capability in strategic planning, business assessments, and developing compelling, clearly framed recommendations with a track record of shaping portfolio strategy through complex internal and external stakeholder engagement.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead across functions at a senior level. Highly collaborative; skilled at building and sustaining senior-level relationships and influencing across the enterprise.
- Analytical & Innovation Mindset: Sophisticated analytical skills applied to product launches, evidence generation, and MS & Spasticity market dynamics. Strong capacity to innovate, solve complex problems, and drive data-informed decisions.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication and executive presentation skills. Ability to represent BMS with authority and credibility at international congresses, advisory boards, regulatory forums, and in senior leadership settings.
- Global Experience: Significant US and/or global medical affairs or clinical development experience is required.
- People Management: Proven track record of effective people leadership — including coaching, motivating, and development planning — in a multicultural, global environment.
- Travel: Ability and willingness to travel globally (frequent international travel will be required).

Princeton - NJ - US: $229,380 - $277,956
The starting pay range(s) listed above is for full-time employees (FTE). You may also be eligible for additional discretionary incentive cash and stock opportunities. We determine starting pay thoughtfully – carefully considering the nature of the role, required skills, work location, schedule and the knowledge and experience you bring. Final compensation is guided by pay equity principles and applicable employment laws. Compensation programs are reviewed on an ongoing basis and may be adjusted over time to reflect evolving market factors, and individual, team or Company performance.
