Position Summary

This is a critical role for the development and execution of BMS' Worldwide medical strategy for Milvexian within the cardiovascular portfolio. The WW Medical Product Lead (MPL) for Milvexian is a strategic leader within the Worldwide Medical organization and a key leader of the cross-functional matrix, providing medical insight and interpretation of the evolving anticoagulation, thrombosis, atrial fibrillation, and cerebrovascular disease landscapes and disseminating emerging clinical data across the organization. As Milvexian is being advanced through an alliance partnership, the MPL also has accountability to work collaboratively across alliance governance and joint team environments to help shape aligned strategies while appropriately representing and advancing BMS medical priorities and interests. The MPL has overall accountability to develop aligned WW medical strategies and execute core medical deliverables, including Integrated Evidence Plans, Scientific Narratives, and External Engagement and Advocacy plans as the lead of the cross-functional Asset/Indication Medical Strategy (AIMS) team.

The Senior Director, WW MPL will have oversight over the Milvexian asset from a Worldwide Medical perspective, with primary focus on two potential indications: atrial fibrillation (AF) and secondary stroke prevention, based on the Phase 3 LIBREXIA-AF and LIBREXIA-STROKE trials. This role will be closely coordinated with the US Medical Lead responsibilities, ensuring clear separation of WW and US accountabilities while maintaining strategic alignment across the asset.

The successful candidate should be able to direct and navigate complex issues across a broad cross-functional matrix to ensure optimal WW medical affairs strategy is developed and executed. This senior medical leader will report to the VP. Head of Cardiovascular Medical Affairs.

Key Responsibilities 

• Develop and execute the Worldwide Medical Affairs strategy for Milvexian across priority indications, with initial focus on atrial fibrillation (AF) and secondary stroke prevention, ensuring alignment with the overall BMS cardiovascular disease area strategy. 

• Serve as the core WW medical representative for Milvexian Program Teams, providing strategic medical and scientific leadership across cross-functional global forums. 

• Lead the cross-functional Asset/Indication Medical Strategy (AIMS) team for Milvexian, setting strategic direction and aligning WW medical deliverables across global markets. 

• Define the WW medical strategy and scientific narrative for Milvexian, incorporating the factor XIa mechanism, emerging anticoagulation science, and the evolving external treatment landscape in atrial fibrillation and secondary stroke prevention. 

• Ensure Milvexian is effectively positioned within the BMS cardiovascular disease area strategy, integrating competitive intelligence, evolving standards of care, and insight generation across thrombosis prevention settings. 

• Provide WW medical leadership for the Milvexian asset focused on the Phase 3 LIBREXIA-AF study in atrial fibrillation and the Phase 3 LIBREXIA-STROKE study in secondary stroke prevention, translating clinical milestones into actionable medical strategies. 

• Partner closely with the US Milvexian Medical Lead and regional/local medical teams to ensure strong coordination. 

• Build strong, effective working relationships with the alliance counterparts and participate in joint planning and governance forums to support aligned global medical strategies, coordinated execution, and effective issue resolution, while ensuring BMS perspectives and strategic interests are clearly represented. 

• Lead workstreams to identify evidence gaps and develop comprehensive Integrated Evidence Plans (IEPs), including interventional and non-interventional evidence generation strategies relevant to AF and secondary stroke prevention populations globally. 

• Establish and oversee global medical data generation strategies; collaborate with Medical Evidence Generation (MEG) to support the execution of Investigator Sponsored Research (ISR) and other evidence generation activities for Milvexian from concept through dissemination. 

• Deliver Worldwide Medical Communications plans for Milvexian, including publications strategy, scientific exchange, symposia, and data dissemination at key cardiovascular and stroke congresses. 

• Engage with high-impact global external experts in thrombosis, anticoagulation, atrial fibrillation, stroke neurology, and vascular medicine to identify and translate key insights into asset strategy. 

• Partner closely with colleagues in Discovery, Clinical Research, Regulatory, Safety, HEOR/Access, Commercial, and alliance-facing teams to ensure the science, clinical profile, and value story of Milvexian are understood and appropriately communicated internally and externally, while representing BMS medical priorities in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson. 

• Contribute the WW medical perspective to target product profile evolution, label strategy, evidence priorities, and access-related discussions for Milvexian. 

• Demonstrate the ability to make effective decisions on selecting external organizations and researchers with appropriate expertise in anticoagulation, cardiovascular medicine, and stroke prevention for global research collaborations. 

• Shape and represent BMS scientific leadership in thrombosis prevention and factor XIa science at international scientific meetings, advisory boards, and other external scientific forums. 

Qualifications & Experience

• Life sciences and/or healthcare professional training with an advanced degree is required (MD, PharmD, PhD).
• Minimum of 8+ years working in the pharmaceutical industry (Medical Affairs/Medical Strategy, Clinical Research) with experience in cardiovascular medicine, thrombosis, anticoagulation, stroke, or related therapeutic areas.
• Deep scientific knowledge of thrombosis biology, anticoagulation, atrial fibrillation, and/or stroke prevention is strongly preferred; experience with factor XI/XIa science is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret complex clinical data and translate insights into global medical strategy, particularly in late-stage development and pre-launch/launch settings.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including clinical, commercialization, regulatory, HEOR, access, and safety.
• Excellent strategy development, critical thinking, leadership on people management, decision making, and demonstrated ability to successfully create and implement short- and long-range worldwide medical plans.
• Proven track record of engaging global/international thought leaders and experts in cardiovascular medicine, thrombosis, anticoagulation, and/or stroke prevention; demonstrated ability to build and sustain high-impact external scientific relationships.
• Experience leading worldwide medical affairs programs and working effectively in a global matrixed organization across multiple geographies and cultures.
• Experience working successfully in alliance or co-development/co-commercialization environments is strongly preferred, with demonstrated ability to lead and influence across organizational boundaries, navigate shared governance, and balance collaboration with strong representation of company interests.
• Entrepreneurial thinking, anticipates needs, assesses and manages business and organizational risks in a complex global environment.
• Highly organized and motivated and possesses excellent people management, interpersonal, and strong communication skills.
• Must be familiar with all phases of drug development, including clinical development, regulatory, and life cycle management in a global context.
• Launch expertise in cardiovascular therapeutic areas is preferred, ideally including anticoagulation, thrombosis prevention, or stroke-related indications.
• HQ based position with international/domestic travel requirement approximately 20–30%.

Princeton - NJ - US: $229,380 - $277,956

The starting pay range(s) listed above is for full-time employees (FTE). You may also be eligible for additional discretionary incentive cash and stock opportunities. We determine starting pay thoughtfully – carefully considering the nature of the role, required skills, work location, schedule and the knowledge and experience you bring. Final compensation is guided by pay equity principles and applicable employment laws. Compensation programs are reviewed on an ongoing basis and may be adjusted over time to reflect evolving market factors, and individual, team or Company performance.
