Description

At Keros, our mission is to deliver significant clinical benefit to a wide range of patients with disorders that are linked to dysfunctional signaling of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-ß) family of proteins. With a focus on developing differentiated product candidates that are designed to alter TGF-β signaling, we aim to target the pathways critical for the growth, repair and maintenance of blood cells and a number of tissues, including bone, skeletal muscle, adipose and heart tissue. We believe our product candidates have the potential to unlock the full therapeutic benefits of modulating the TGF-β superfamily and provide disease-modifying benefit to patients.

Job Summary

Keros Therapeutics, a public, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, is seeking a passionate and motivated Scientist to join our preclinical research team. Keros is a leader in developing novel therapies targeting transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-ß) family signaling pathways, which regulate the health of blood, muscle, bone and other tissues. The successful candidate will help advance our innovative pipeline by contributing to scientific studies focusing on kidney fibrosis in chronic kidney diseases (CKD). The candidate will actively contribute to impactful preclinical research by developing and optimizing models of kidney fibrosis and evaluating the therapeutic potential of novel treatments modulating the TGF- ß pathway. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in in vivo model development, experimental design and data analysis and be able to communicate cross-functionally and present at multidisciplinary program teams.

Primary Responsibilities

Develop, optimize and execute mouse models of kidney fibrosis, such as unilateral ureteral obstruction and 5/6 nephrectomy.

Independently design and execute translatable in vivo experiments to generate pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles and evaluate drug efficacy.

Utilize a broad array of laboratory techniques to identify, validate and evaluate translatable disease relevant biomarkers.

Analyze and interpret data within the broader context of CKD and inform next steps in the drug discovery/development process

Prepare and present detailed reports, publications, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

External outreach to the broader scientific community (e.g., academic laboratories and contract research organizations) to build professional relationships and collaborations and expand our research capabilities.

Stay abreast of the latest scientific advancements and incorporate new knowledge into ongoing projects.

Draft IACUC protocols and amendments and maintain the highest standards of animal welfare

Contribute to the preparation of study reports, regulatory filings and project presentations

Maintain excellent written documentation of completed experiments (e.g., electronic lab notebook and study reports)

Core Competencies (Required Skills)

Knowledge of chronic kidney disease, translatable disease models and clinically relevant biomarkers.

Excellent animal handling skills, including dosing using multiple routes of administration, biological sample and tissue collection and aseptic surgery techniques.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including data and statistical analysis.

Ability to lead complex research projects and drive them to completion.

Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Effective communication skills, with experience in writing scientific publications and presenting data internally and externally.

Highly collaborative working style and ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Skills

Ability to independently lead research projects and drive successful outcomes.

Experience with mammalian cell culture and in vitro model development (e.g., complex cellular models)

Extensive knowledge of TGF-β signaling pathways

Experience managing/mentoring junior associates

Education Requirements

Ph.D. in Biology or a related field with 2+ years of experience, a Master’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience.
