Description
Exhibits substantial scientific and operational bandwidth to simultaneously lead 2 or more projects ranging across different therapeutic areas and stages of preclinical drug development. Exhibits significant learning agility to build deep mechanistic knowledge around disease biology and translational clinical development plans. Responsible for championing innovative scientific and technical strategies to deliver differentiated therapeutics that will enable novel mechanisms to be fully tested in early clinical development. Responsible for determining the most effective technical solution for a given project considering cost, technical/operational feasibility and time to delivery. Leverages experience to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders i.e. new companies, academics and clinical research organizations to advance projects. Manages investment risk in individual projects through early identification of key questions and development of clear decision-making experimental plans to build confidence in the biology, pharmacology and safety of the approach. Identifies major operational risks and develops effective mitigation options to enable timely Go/No Go decisions. Inspires scientific, strategic and operational excellence from team members in a matrixed organization to enable successful regulatory submissions and approvals. Communicate effectively to keep leadership, partners and team members well informed of strategy and progress.
Requirements
PhD or equivalent experience/qualification in a relevant discipline i.e. Biology Neuroscience, Metabolism or Immunology. Minimum of 5 years of pharmaceutical drug development experience with roles of increasing leadership responsibility in small molecule or biologics. Proven track of successfully delivering on preclinical projects from hit identification to IND submission. Familiarity with clinical trial execution and working with contract research organizations. Evidence of driving team to ensure execution against plan based on time and cost criteria. Able to quickly focus a team on the critical elements of the project and motivate them to deliver. Evidence of holding team accountable to commitments to the plan and escalating as necessary when commitments are not met. Evidence of consistently and proactively managing project risks and implementing contingency/mitigation strategies. Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into effective operational goals and tactical plans. Evidence of ability to recognize areas for continuous improvement in team function and influence change. Able to represent feedback of matrix team members to broader team without bias. Able to drive team consensus around difficult issues. Supports team effectiveness and delivery through open and effective communication.
