The Process Engineer will work closely with the Operations and Engineering Teams to drive injection molding and supporting automation process improvements through data-based decision making. The Process Engineer will lead trials and other continuous improvement initiatives to improve items such as throughput, quality, and building robust processes for in-line automation. The Process Engineer will be a key member of the Operations Team with reporting to the Director of Operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Optimize production processes to deliver cost savings, improve quality, and support new product introduction.
- Lead equipment / process improvement projects utilizing sound project management techniques and see projects through to completion.
- Use of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to analyze problems associated with technical issues and provide effective solutions.
- Execute and achieve process improvement objectives on schedule in a team environment. Support business plan objectives to increase productivity, reduce scrap and excess usage, improve quality, and enhance safety.
- Identify and prioritize process improvement opportunities throughout the manufacturing facility.
- Running of injection molding lines to drive process improvements with support from Operations and Engineering where needed.
- The use of data and statistics to make decisions.
- Collaboration with Quality and Engineering on customer concerns.
- Troubleshooting of injection molding processes when an issue arises, with working towards a root cause and elimination.
- Participation in LEAN Kaizen events for Continuous Improvement efforts.
- Support day to day operations with assigned problem solving, improvements, mold and automation changeovers when needed.
- Process support for future robotics and in-line automation.
- Support mold and automation changeovers when needed.
- Work with internal and external suppliers of materials, equipment, and services to execute projects, resolve problems and improve processes and methodologies.
- Leads development of standard work for injection molding lines and other processes.
- Recommendations and collaboration with Engineering to improve mold designs.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Plastics, Chemical, Mechanical, Automation, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent science/math-based degree.
- Previous thermoplastic process engineering related work experience with preference of injection molding.
- Excellent work ethic with ability to work independently and be proactive.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint and ability to work with data to generate periodic reports as may be needed.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, creativity, and decision-making skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Lean / Greenbelt training and experience preferred.
