Job Description:

The Production, Planning, and Logistics (PPL) Co-op – Dock Process Improvement will support improvement initiatives within receiving, shipping, staging, and dock operations at the Cornelia site. The co-op will report to the Supply Chain Manager and work with Logistics, Warehouse Operations, Planning, Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental, Engineering, Facilities, and other cross-functional partners. The position will collect and analyze operational data, document material and information flows, identify process gaps and waste, support structured problem solving, and help implement sustainable improvements. Focus areas may include dock utilization, trailer and shipment flow, staging practices, material movement, standard work, visual management, safety, inventory accuracy, and performance reporting. The co-op will receive guidance, training, and mentoring appropriate to the assignment and will perform work in accordance with applicable safety, quality, regulatory, data-integrity, and Company requirements. The co-op should remain enrolled in an accredited academic program for the duration of the assignment, and assigned work should relate to the co-op’s field of study.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

In accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:

• Assists and contributes to the assigned team for the duration of the temporary internship/co-op.

• Receives guidance, training, and mentoring from colleagues in planning and carrying out activities and assignments.

• Observes and documents current receiving, shipping, staging, and material-movement processes.

• Develops or updates process maps, workflow diagrams, time studies, spaghetti diagrams, and other process-analysis documents, as appropriate.

• Collects and analyzes operational data to identify delays, congestion, unnecessary movement, rework, handoff gaps, and other improvement opportunities.

• Evaluates dock and staging-area utilization, including material flow, space usage, trailer activity, and workload patterns.

• Supports structured root cause problem solving for recurring dock, shipping, receiving, inventory, and material-flow issues.

• Supports or leads defined process improvement projects under the direction of the Supply Chain Manager.

• Assists with developing future-state workflows, standard work, visual controls, checklists, and escalation processes.

• Coordinates improvement activities with Warehouse Operations, Planning, Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental, Engineering, Facilities, and other stakeholders.
• Supports pilots and controlled implementation of approved process changes.
• Documents project actions, decisions, risks, owners, due dates, and results and helps establish sustainment plans and process ownership.

• Develops and maintains reports or dashboards for agreed dock and logistics measures.

• Validates source data and documents calculation methods before results are used for business decisions.

• Prepares concise project updates, documentation, and presentations for the Supply Chain Manager and cross-functional stakeholders.

• Maintains project documentation in approved Company systems and locations.

• Follows all applicable health, safety, environmental, quality, data-integrity, and Company requirements.

• Identifies and promptly communicates observed safety, quality, compliance, or operational concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

• Completes required training before performing independent work in operational areas.

• Supports audits, nonconformance investigations, and corrective actions when assigned and within the scope of completed training.

• Follows site requirements for personal protective equipment, pedestrian pathways, powered industrial truck areas, loading docks, trailers, and other operational workspaces.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Generally requires 0–2 years of work experience.

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree program.

• Preferred fields of study include Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field.

• Foundational coursework in process improvement, statistics, operations, logistics, or data analysis is preferred.

• Previous internship, warehouse, manufacturing, or project experience is preferred but not required.
• Fluency in English with clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with hourly associates, professional staff, contractors, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Ability to spend time in an active warehouse and dock environment while following all safety requirements.
• Foundational knowledge of process improvement, structured problem solving, or data analysis.
• Ability to observe processes objectively and document findings in a factual, non-blaming manner.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, and SharePoint.
• Experience with Power BI, process-mapping software, statistical tools, enterprise systems, or Structured Query Language (SQL) is preferred but not required.
• Ability to organize work, manage multiple assignments, maintain an action log, and meet agreed deadlines.
• Ability to distinguish verified facts from assumptions and escalate questions when information is incomplete.
• Ability to handle operational and Company information appropriately.
• Ability to work independently after receiving appropriate training and direction.
• Willingness to learn directly from dock, warehouse, transportation, and logistics personnel.

Candidate Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must:

• Be authorized to work in the US without current or future sponsorship requirements.
• Remain actively enrolled in their academic program throughout the entire internship period.
• Be available to work 40 hours per week during the internship.
• Should have a minimum GPA of 3
  

Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future.  Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.
