General Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Molder to join our steel foundry team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality molds used in steel casting operations, ensuring precision and consistency throughout the manufacturing process. This role demands technical expertise in machining, blueprint interpretation, and CNC operations, along with a strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties:

I. Mold Preparation & Assembly

• Prepare sand molds for aluminum castings using pneumatic rammers, match plates, patterns, flasks, and hand tools
• Pack sand around patterns and compact to proper density
• Dust or coat mold surfaces with parting compound to prevent sticking or defects
• Install and secure filters and cores into mold cavities
• Align cope and drag securely with locating pins or clamps; set pouring basin
• Level and strike off excess sand to create a flat mold surface

II. Mold Inspection & Quality Control

• Check gating, risers, chill placement, and venting per work orders or process sheets
• Inspect mold cavities for defects, loose sand, or broken edges; repair as needed
• Monitor sand quality and report inconsistencies that could cause casting defects
• Report defects or pattern issues to supervisors or patternmakers
• Record mold numbers and scrap data on production forms and molder cards
• Communicate with shakeout and pour-off teams regarding casting quality

III. Mold Handling & Pouring Support

• Position molds for pouring using overhead crane
• Remove debris and waste material from sand

IV. Equipment Maintenance & Housekeeping

• Clean and maintain molding equipment and tools
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
• Detect and report faulty equipment, improper operations, and unusual conditions to supervision

V. Production & Scheduling

• Follow daily production schedules and complete assigned mold counts

VI. Training & Team Support

• Train or assist new molders in proper green sand molding methods

VII. Other Duties

• Perform other related duties as assigned or directed
