What you will do

The Medical Director serves as the senior medical authority for Taiwan and lead the development and execution of the country medical strategy across in-line and pipeline assets. Build strong scientific leadership, translate evidence into better clinical practice and patient outcomes, strengthen evidence generation and access, and ensure disciplined medical governance in close partnership with Taiwan leadership and JAPAC.

 

Accountabilities

• Act as the senior medical authority for Taiwan, providing independent, evidence-based medical leadership to the Taiwan leadership team and ensuring a strong connection between country needs and JAPAC/global strategy.
• Maximize Amgen’s value proposition across the portfolio by shaping medical strategy, strengthening scientific leadership, accelerating appropriate adoption of innovation, and supporting launch and lifecycle priorities.
• Build a high-performing Medical organization and culture that combines scientific depth, business understanding, patient focus, operational excellence, compliance, and a One Amgen mindset.
• Own local medical governance, risk management and resource allocation, while maintaining functional integrity between Medical and Commercial.

Core Responsibilities

1. Medical & Scientific Leadership

• Provide authoritative medical/scientific input to the Taiwan Management Team and shape cross-functional business strategy without compromising Medical independence.
• Develop and lead execution of the Taiwan Medical Strategy and annual Medical Plan, prioritizing resources against patient, scientific and business needs.
• Anticipate external changes in clinical practice, policy, reimbursement, competitive landscape and health-system priorities, and translate them into medical priorities.
• Ensure local insights flow effectively to JAPAC/global teams and bring relevant global science and strategy back to Taiwan.

2. Portfolio, Launch & Lifecycle Leadership

• Lead Medical readiness for priority launches and lifecycle milestones, including disease education, evidence strategy, external engagement, field capability and implementation readiness.
• Lead medical strategy for priority oncology opportunities, supporting appropriate clinical adoption while addressing scientific, operational, patient access and evolving treatment landscape considerations.
• Lead cross-TA lifecycle planning across priority assets and other strategic products relevant to the portfolio.
• Partner with JAPAC IMDs and global teams to ensure Taiwan needs are represented in above-country strategies and plans.

3. Evidence Generation & Insights

• Own Taiwan’s local evidence-generation strategy and ensure fit-for-purpose prioritization across clinical studies, RWE, IIS and other evidence programs.
• Provide senior oversight of local clinical-trial conduct and escalation, in partnership with Global Development, Clinical Operations and relevant responsible functions.
• Use data, digital and scientific analytics to generate decision-relevant insights and inform brand, access, policy and healthcare-system strategy.
• Connect Taiwan evidence to JAPAC/global platforms and advocate for Taiwan participation where it adds meaningful scientific or strategic value.

4. Scientific Communications, External Engagement & Policy

• Lead senior-level scientific engagement with KOLs, investigators, societies, policy stakeholders and other external experts.
• Build credible medical advocacy and support guideline/consensus development where scientifically and strategically appropriate.
• Provide medical input into regulatory, reimbursement and policy documents and interactions, including health-system and access discussions.
• Build Amgen’s reputation as a science-based, patient-focused and reliable partner in Taiwan.

5. Medical Governance, Compliance & Patient Safety

• Ensure all Medical activities are scientifically appropriate, compliant with applicable laws and Amgen policies/SOPs, and aligned with functional integrity.
• Partner with Safety/GRAAS, Regulatory and other functions to identify, assess and mitigate medical risks and protect human-subject safety.
• Serve as a senior escalation point for complex scientific, medical, compliance, study or stakeholder issues.
• Ensure materials and external/internal medical interactions meet required scientific and medical standards.

6. People Leadership & Organizational Capability

• Recruit, coach, develop and retain high-caliber Medical talent; build succession and capability plans for critical roles.
• Create a high-trust, high-accountability culture that encourages scientific challenge, collaboration, inclusion and speed with discipline.
• Embed the Medical competency model and continuously strengthen capabilities in evidence generation, field excellence, leadership, digital/AI and strategic thinking.
• Optimize the Medical operating model, ways of working and resource allocation to deliver sustainable value with appropriate efficiency.

What we expect of you

• Education

Medical degree (MD, MBBS or equivalent) preferred, particularly where the role requires senior clinical credibility and engagement with complex therapeutic/health-system questions.

• Alternative background

For exceptional candidates without an MD, an advanced scientific/clinical qualification such as PharmD, PhD, or equivalent may be considered only when combined with deep pharmaceutical/biotechnology Medical Affairs experience, strong scientific authority, proven clinical-trial/evidence expertise and demonstrated senior stakeholder credibility.

• Medical Affairs

Typically 10+ years of Medical Affairs and/or clinical development experience, with substantial experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology environments and a strong understanding of the full product lifecycle.

• Leadership

Demonstrated country/affiliate Medical leadership, including strategy, organization design, talent development, resource allocation and cross-functional influence.

• External credibility

Established network and credibility with key external experts, investigators and relevant scientific/society stakeholders in Taiwan and/or the region.

• Local environment

Strong understanding of Taiwan’s pharmaceutical, healthcare, regulatory, reimbursement and policy environment, with ability to navigate complexity constructively.

• Governance & compliance

Strong track record in medical governance, risk management, patient safety and compliant execution; able to make sound decisions under ambiguity.

• Digital / data mindset

Demonstrated ability to use data, analytics and emerging digital/AI tools to improve insight generation, medical execution and organizational effectiveness.
