The role  

We are looking for an experienced Lead Developer to take technical ownership of the engineering delivery of an enterprise Sitecore-to-Contentful migration, covering both content and application migration.

You will lead the development team, establish engineering standards and ensure successful delivery of a scalable, maintainable Contentful-based solution.

Ideally you are also an AI-first technical leader who can embed AI-native and spec-driven development practices into everyday engineering, using emerging tooling to improve delivery efficiency while maintaining technical quality, security and accountability.

 

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership and Migration Delivery

• Lead the technical implementation of the Sitecore-to-Contentful migration across content, applications and integrations.
• Work with architects to shape migration options, Contentful implementation patterns and technical decisions.
• Guide the migration and modernisation of existing applications, including React frontends and supporting services.
• Define approaches for content modelling, transformation, migration automation and validation.
• Coordinate engineering activities, resolve complex technical challenges and manage dependencies and delivery risks.
• Remain hands-on where required, particularly for complex implementation, technical spikes and critical problem-solving.

 

AI-First Engineering Leadership

• Champion an AI-first engineering mindset, encouraging the team to proactively use AI to improve software delivery.
• Establish practical spec-driven development approaches, ensuring clear, testable specifications guide implementation and validation.
• Identify opportunities to apply AI to Sitecore analysis, content mapping, migration automation, code modernisation and testing.
• Guide developers in the effective use of AI coding assistants and automated engineering workflows.
• Establish appropriate review, security and quality practices for AI-generated code and migration outputs.
• Drive experimentation, knowledge sharing and measurable improvements in team productivity through AI adoption.

 

Engineering Quality and Stakeholder Engagement

• Own engineering quality, implementation consistency and technical delivery outcomes.
• Establish standards for code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, migration validation and release readiness.
• Lead technical planning for migration, cutover, rollback and post-migration support.
• Provide technical direction, mentoring and coaching to developers.
• Act as a trusted technical contact for client stakeholders, architects and delivery teams.
• Communicate technical risks, trade-offs and recommendations clearly, aligning decisions with business objectives.

 

Essential Skills and Experience

• Significant engineering experience, including technical leadership of complex digital platform deliveries.
• Proven experience with enterprise CMS migrations, replatforming or major headless CMS implementations.
• Strong practical knowledge of Contentful, Sitecore and associated migration and integration challenges.
• Strong understanding of React, TypeScript, API-driven architectures and application modernisation.
• Experience leading engineering teams, making technical decisions and assuring delivery quality.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted software development and the ability to drive adoption of AI-native, spec-driven engineering practices.
• Strong knowledge of automated testing, CI/CD, release processes and technical risk management.
• Strong stakeholder communication, consultancy and technical leadership skills.

 

Desirable Experience

• Previous technical leadership of a Sitecore-to-Contentful migration.
• Experience with Next.js, Sitecore JSS and composable architecture.
• Experience using AI to accelerate complex migrations, legacy application modernisation or engineering workflows.
• Experience with multilingual, multisite or enterprise content platforms.

• Establishes clear technical direction, engineering standards and accountability within the team.
• Embeds AI-native development practices that demonstrably improve delivery efficiency and quality.
• Proactively manages technical risks and builds confidence with stakeholders.
• Develops team capability through technical leadership, coaching and continuous improvement.

C5 Expectation: A technical leader accountable for engineering delivery, technical quality and team effectiveness, working closely with Architects while driving implementation and technical decisions across the development team.
