Education required: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university, preferably in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science or Materials Science discipline

Other requirements: Must be enrolled at a SG university for the duration of your internship and doing a full-time credit-bearing internship

Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English

Internship period: January to June 2027

What will you do?

• This internship entails deep material characterization and comparability assessments of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and excipients used in the formulation and manufacture of oral, semi-solid and liquid medicinal products

• Comparability studies are required to assess the impact of product lifecycle changes on material properties and secondary manufacturability (micronization, granulation, mixing, milling and tableting), drug product performance and patient impact

• The material characterization techniques involved in this project will encompass some or all of the following: particle sizing, solid state form determination, powder flow, thermal analysis, particle imaging, moisture sorption and rheological analysis

What will you learn?

• Acquire hands on experience on different material characterization techniques for APIs and excipients used to manufacture medicinal products (particle sizing, XRPD, rheological properties, flow properties, moisture sorption analysis and thermal analysis)

• Hands-on experience on equipment trouble-shooting and characterization method development (where required)

• Data analysis and interpretation of results

• Present results, participate in material science discussions and influence data-driven decision making

• Appreciation of the importance of material characteristics on drug product manufacturing processes and quality

• Acquire knowledge and application of good laboratory practices (GLP) and good documentation practices (GDP)

What are we looking for?

• Technical competency and laboratory skills in pharmaceutical sciences/ biological sciences/ chemistry, analytical sciences

• Enjoy working in a laboratory environment and thrive in activities related to analytical troubleshooting, problem solving and root cause analysis to meet business needs

• Excellent inter-personal communication skills, enjoy working and collaborating cross-functionally and across global teams

• Curious, agile, adaptable to change and able to work under time pressure
