The technician performs advanced troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on a wide range of HVAC and refrigeration equipment, including ice machines, refrigerators/freezers, low-temperature systems, environmental chambers, incubators, freeze dryers, air dryers, dehumidifiers, stability chambers, and building HVAC systems. This role requires sound judgment, strong customer service, and a commitment to safety and quality in all service activities.</p><p></p><p><b>What You’ll Work On</b></p><ul><li>Perform HVAC and refrigeration diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance across diverse facility environments.</li><li>Service and maintain equipment including chillers, freezers, refrigerators, low‑temperature systems, freeze dryers, incubators, environmental chambers, VAV boxes, dehumidifiers, and air dryers.</li><li>Conduct refrigerant recovery and reclamation in compliance with regulatory requirements.</li><li>Inspect, adjust, and repair air‑handling systems, including bearings, belts, seals, valves, actuators, and related components.</li><li>Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical components such as motors, fans, compressors, pumps, and basic control devices.</li><li>Perform brazing, soldering, and installation tasks on HVAC/R equipment per Abbott Engineering Standards.</li><li>Utilize Building Automation Systems and environmental control systems to diagnose and resolve operational issues.</li><li>Execute preventive maintenance tasks, including calibration and adjustment of temperature and pneumatic controls.</li><li>Work as a multi‑skilled tradesperson, assisting with electrical, mechanical, pipefitting, and general building maintenance assignments as needed.</li><li>Perform mechanical overhauls and prepare equipment for optimal performance and regulatory inspection.</li></ul><p></p><p><b>Complexity of Work</b></p><p></p><p>Demonstrates proficiency in identifying and operating HVAC/R systems and equipment across multiple facility environments. Utilizes department tools, computer‑based systems, work order platforms, logs, and data collection applications effectively. Takes on progressively complex assignments, developing deeper expertise in specialty systems. Works in conditions that may include noise, chemicals, biohazards, odors, temperature extremes, confined spaces, heights, and outdoor exposure.
