You will investigate and approve the quality and functionality of equipment, instruct customers in the operation and maintenance of systems, and act as a technical contact for assigned service activities.</p><p></p><p>You will conduct on-site installations of Thermo Fisher Scientific Electron Microscopes and X-Ray Photoelectron Spectrometer (XPS) systems and their associated options, ensuring high customer satisfaction and compliance with company standards.</p><p></p><p><b>Location:</b></p><p><span>The Field Service Engineer should ideally be based in the Rhein-Main area, Karlsruhe, or Munich. The role involves travel within the southern region as well as internationally and is home office–based.</span><span> </span></p><div></div><p><b>A Day in the Life</b></p><ul><li>Perform remote and on-site troubleshooting, repair and installation of our Electron Microscope and X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometer (XPS) portfolio</li><li>Provide on-site training related to maintenance and basic operation</li><li>Support local spare parts inventory management</li><li>Coordinate and dispatch third-party service providers when required and follow up to ensure customer satisfaction</li><li>Monitor the status of customer service contracts and support scheduling of preventive maintenance visits</li><li>Ensure that all documentation related to service activities (Field Service Reports, Service Work Orders, Quotes) is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner</li><li>Take ownership of assigned service tickets after remote diagnosis and manage technical and administrative resolution including customer communication until closure</li></ul><div></div><p><b>Keys to Success</b></p><p><b>Education</b></p><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in a technical or scientific field (Engineering or Physics preferred)</li><li>Graduates must have knowledge of Electron Microscopy and/or X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS)</li><li>A full education in TEM  or XPS is equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree</li></ul><p><b>Experience</b></p><ul><li>5 years of professional experience in a related scientific, technical and/or customer-facing service role desired</li></ul><p></p><p><b>Technical Competencies</b></p><ul><li>Solid proficiency in instrument systems technology including electronics, precision mechanics, vacuum technology, high voltage systems, chemistry and software technology</li><li>Experience in troubleshooting vacuum and high voltage systems; experience with ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems is an advantage</li><li>Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical documentation</li><li>Familiarity with Windows-based software environments</li><li>Ability to perform standard software installations and updates<br /> </li></ul><p><b>Personal Competencies</b></p><ul><li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with customers, colleagues and supervisors</li><li>Structured and systematic problem-solving skills</li><li>Ability to work independently on routine tasks and appropriately escalate complex issues</li><li>Customer-focused mindset with strong service orientation</li></ul><div></div><p><b>Additional Requirements</b></p><ul><li>Fluent in English; German preferred</li><li>Willingness to travel frequently, often on short notice, to different customer sites in the Service Area</li><li>International travel up to approximately 30%, depending on place of residence</li><li>Valid driver’s license (Class B)<br /> </li></ul><p><b>What we offer</b></p><ul><li>A position with an innovative, forward-looking employer</li><li>Excellent development and career opportunities within a globally growing company</li><li>A company car that may also be used for private purposes</li><li>The option to lease a JobRad (company bike)</li><li>Compensation in accordance with the Hessian IG Metall collective agreement</li><li>Attractive company pension plan</li><li>Flexible working hours to help balance work and family life</li><li>Product training through on-the-job learning and equipment training at our production sites in Eindhoven and Brno</li><li>A company culture that embodies integrity, involvement, intensity, and innovation </li></ul><p></p><p>If you are interested, please apply online with your CV and Motivation Letter including possible start date and salary expectations. </p><p></p><p>At Thermo Fisher Scientific, each one of our 100,000 extraordinary minds has a unique story to tell.
