Field Bioinformatics Application Scientist – CSD Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)
About the role
Please apply with an English CV!
You will be a key technical resource for customers using the Clinical Sequencing Division (CSD) NGS bioinformatics portfolio, solving complex workflow and software issues through advanced helpdesk support. You will build deep technical capability and strong case ownership, with opportunities to grow into customer training, value-added services, and commercial support as your expertise develops.
What you will do:
- Provide advanced helpdesk support for CSD NGS bioinformatics products and workflows; troubleshoot complex issues across data inputs/outputs, configuration, environment constraints, and software behavior
- Own customer cases end-to-end: gather requirements, reproduce issues where possible, identify likely root cause, document clearly, and communicate updates and next steps
- Prioritize and triage cases; escalate high-severity issues through defined channels and support follow-through through resolution
- Partner with internal teams (e.g., product, R&D, informatics, field) by providing clear technical summaries and supporting artifacts (logs, screenshots, minimal repro)
- Build and maintain practical documentation (how-to guides, troubleshooting articles, known-issue summaries) to improve customer experience and reduce repeat issues
- Participate in product training and structured learning to build capability in CSD NGS workflows
- Support selected customer training sessions or value-added activities as development opportunities and as business needs require
- Contribute occasionally to workshops/webinars or demo readiness, primarily in a supporting capacity
What will get you there:
- BSc/MSc in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Computer Science, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Experience or strong exposure to NGS bioinformatics and a strong interest in applied technical support
- Working knowledge of Linux/command line; motivation to develop deeper proficiency
- Exposure to Python or R (or willingness to build scripting skills)
- Strong troubleshooting mindset, clear documentation habits, and responsive customer communication
- Ability to manage multiple cases and maintain attention to detail
- Fluency in English and Italian, Spanish is a plus
