Executive Director, U.S. Medical Affairs Cardiovascular Portfolio Lead
What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you lead the U.S. Medical Affairs strategy for Amgen’s cardiovascular portfolio, spanning established and pipeline assets across cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia, Lp(a), and related cardiovascular priorities.
This role will lead a U.S. Medical Affairs team to develop and execute an integrated portfolio strategy that addresses patient, healthcare professional, payer, and health-system needs while maximizing the scientific and clinical value of Repatha and future cardiovascular programs.
This role will provide U.S. leadership across portfolio and above-brand strategy, evidence generation, implementation science, scientific communication, launch and lifecycle excellence, congress and professional society strategy, medical education, health-equity priorities, and strategic partnerships.
The successful candidate will collaborate across U.S. Medical, Field Medical, Implementation Science, External Engagement, Clinical Development, Commercial, Access, Regulatory, Legal, and Compliance to shape and execute an integrated U.S. cardiovascular medical strategy, while partnering with the Obesity Medical team on shared scientific, evidence, and patient-care priorities.
In addition to overseeing the U.S. Medical Affairs strategy for Repatha, this role will lead portfolio-level planning across current and emerging cardiovascular assets. The role will partner with U.S. cross-functional leaders and Global Medical Affairs to translate evidence into relevant scientific engagement, support appropriate access and policy discussions, and address care gaps across atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, lipid management, and related cardiovascular risk. The role will work in close collaboration with the Obesity Medical team where cardiovascular risk reduction and obesity care intersect, while maintaining clear ownership of the cardiovascular portfolio.
Amgen continues to advance a broad cardiovascular portfolio in a complex U.S. healthcare environment, requiring strong leadership to integrate strategy across assets, strengthen field medical capabilities, generate and communicate practice-relevant evidence, build trusted external partnerships, and improve the translation of science into patient care.
This role will serve as a key member of the U.S. Medical Affairs General Medicine leadership team and will report to the Vice President, U.S. Medical Affairs.
The Executive Director, U.S. Medical Affairs Cardiovascular Portfolio Lead is specifically responsible for:
- Serving on the U.S. Medical Affairs leadership team to shape enterprise and cardiovascular strategic priorities
- Leading the development and execution of an integrated U.S. medical strategy across established and pipeline cardiovascular assets, including atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia, and related cardiovascular priorities
- Maintaining strong strategic and executional leadership for Repatha while building a coherent portfolio approach for future cardiovascular programs
- Translating global asset and disease-area strategies into differentiated U.S. priorities based on clinical practice, guidelines, policy, access, health-system, and patient needs
- Identifying portfolio-level and above-brand synergies across implementation science, evidence generation, scientific platforms, stakeholder engagement, medical education, congresses, field deployment, and operational capabilities
- Partnering with U.S. Field Medical, Implementation Science, Clinical Development, Commercial, Access, Regulatory, Legal, Compliance, and Global Medical Affairs to align scientific and medical objectives across the cardiovascular portfolio
- Leading development of an above-brand cardiovascular strategy across the U.S. Medical Affairs team to address shared disease-state priorities, prevention, diagnosis, guideline implementation, care pathways, health equity, and system-level barriers beyond individual assets
- Collaborating with Implementation Science colleagues to identify barriers and facilitators to evidence-based cardiovascular care; design, test, evaluate, sustain, and scale interventions; and translate findings into portfolio strategy, field execution, and health-system partnerships
- Working in close collaboration with the Obesity Medical team on shared scientific priorities, evidence-generation opportunities, field insights, education, and external engagement at the intersection of obesity and cardiovascular risk, while maintaining clear portfolio ownership and governance
- Leading and developing U.S. Medical Affairs team members to drive excellence in evidence generation, scientific communication, medical education, congress planning, and stakeholder engagement
- Overseeing an integrated U.S. congress and professional society strategy across cardiology, lipidology, primary care, and other relevant cardiovascular specialties, with coordinated engagement alongside the Obesity Medical team when appropriate
- Driving differentiated U.S. scientific narratives, core medical content, publications, educational initiatives, and external engagement plans at both the portfolio and asset levels
- Engaging experts, professional societies, advocacy organizations, integrated delivery networks, health systems, payers, quality organizations, and academic networks to strengthen scientific partnerships and address cardiovascular care gaps
- Supporting independent medical education and other compliant educational initiatives for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, advanced practice professionals, and patient-focused stakeholders
- Partnering with Field Medical leadership to establish portfolio and asset-level engagement priorities, strengthen MSL capabilities, and convert field insights into actionable medical strategy
- Ensuring compliant capture, synthesis, communication, and use of scientific insights across cardiovascular diseases, assets, field interactions, congresses, advisory activities, and external partnerships
- Leading U.S. launch readiness and lifecycle management for marketed and pipeline cardiovascular assets, including sequencing priorities and balancing resources across the portfolio
- Providing medical input into U.S. access, reimbursement, quality improvement, policy, prevention, and value-based partnership priorities across cardiovascular disease
- Advancing evidence generation—including clinical, real-world, health economics, implementation science, population health, and outcomes research—to address U.S. cardiovascular evidence gaps, accelerate translation of evidence into practice, and demonstrate portfolio impact
- Promoting integrated, multidisciplinary approaches to cardiovascular risk reduction and coordinating with the Obesity Medical team on areas of shared patient need
- Leading resource planning, prioritization, governance, and budget allocation across U.S. Medical Affairs cardiovascular portfolio objectives
- Driving innovation and operational excellence, including responsible use of AI-enabled solutions across insight generation, medical engagement, congress planning, stakeholder management, and operations
- Recruiting, developing, and mentoring a high-performing U.S. Medical Affairs team while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and patient-focused culture
- Strengthening Amgen’s reputation as a trusted, science-driven, patient-focused partner within the U.S. cardiovascular community
What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree & 6 years of medical affairs/cardiovascular experience OR
- Master’s degree & 10 years of medical affairs/cardiovascular experience OR
- Bachelor’s degree & 12 years of medical affairs/cardiovascular experience AND
- 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
Preferred Qualifications:
- In-depth experience developing and executing U.S. Medical Affairs strategies across a portfolio or multiple assets, preferably within cardiovascular disease
- Experience translating clinical development and evidence-generation strategy into integrated U.S. cardiovascular portfolio and asset-level medical priorities
- MD or other advanced clinical or scientific degree
- Experience with both inline and pipeline launches in the U.S.
- 10+ years of biopharmaceutical industry experience across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, or related functions
- Demonstrated experience leading U.S. product launches, lifecycle management, and portfolio strategy
- Broad scientific and clinical knowledge across cardiovascular disease, including atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and lipid management
- Strong knowledge of U.S. evidence generation, scientific communication, congress planning, field medical strategy, and external engagement
- Experience developing above-brand disease-state strategies and applying implementation science approaches to close evidence-to-practice gaps across healthcare systems
- Experience leading across multiple assets, indications, or cardiovascular disease areas and establishing portfolio-level priorities and synergies
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with adjacent medical teams, including Obesity Medical, on shared scientific and patient-care priorities
- Experience partnering with U.S. professional societies, advocacy organizations, academic institutions, health systems, payers, and other external cardiovascular stakeholders
- Experience translating global strategies into integrated U.S. portfolio and asset plans
- Expertise in medical education, insight generation, and stakeholder engagement within applicable legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements
- Strong financial, budgeting, governance, prioritization, and resource management capabilities
- Experience building and developing high-performing Medical Affairs and/or Field Medical teams
- Strong strategic thinking, executive communication, change leadership, and matrix leadership skills
- Experience leveraging digital and AI-enabled solutions to improve medical engagement and operational effectiveness
- Deep understanding of the U.S. healthcare environment, clinical guidelines, reimbursement, access, quality measures, population health, and policy landscape
- Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice, U.S. regulatory requirements, and Medical Affairs compliance standards

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is $325,302 - $440,114. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
