ED Product Development, Analytical Services & Direct Material

Reports to: Vice President, PDS Procurement

Team: Approximately 5 direct reports, with a total team of approximately 25 FTEs.

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey; Princeton, New Jersey

Out of scope: Site Procurement / Site Manufacturing Operations and End-to-End Logistics, which report directly to the Vice President, PDS Procurement.

Position Summary:

Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) is seeking an exceptional leader for the position of Executive Director, Product Development, Analytical Services & Direct Material, within PDS Procurement. The role brings Product Development, Analytical Services and Direct Materials Procurement together under a single leader, spanning market-facing spend of approximately $1B across the end-to-end product lifecycle, from early development through commercial manufacturing.

PDS Procurement is a corporate strategic sourcing group dedicated to supporting the company's global business units by developing and implementing innovative sourcing strategies. Our mission is to maximize contract value while maintaining the highest quality standards through clear specifications and well-planned negotiations. The team continuously collaborates with strategic suppliers to enhance and capture additional value within the supply chain through productivity initiatives and strong partnerships.

As the Executive Director, you will lead the integration of Direct Materials Procurement into the existing Product Development & Analytical Services organization, harmonizing category strategies, governance, and ways of working across Product Development, Analytical Services, and Direct Materials. You will ensure delivery of category value targets, as agreed with finance and business stakeholders and endorsed by the PDS Procurement Leadership Team (SLT), and will be expected to be a credible leader and value-adding business partner to senior stakeholders at the VP and Senior VP levels.

In collaboration with the SLT and business stakeholders, the Executive Director will lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of formalized category management structures and methods across all three sub-categories. This includes ensuring effective supplier relationship management, including with small business suppliers, to drive performance delivery, continuous improvement, and access to innovation. By applying rigorous category management tools, systems, and techniques, the Executive Director will deliver measurable business value, both operational and financial, while ensuring the combined team operates as a single, cohesive function.

Additionally, you will take personal ownership of the largest and/or most complex supplier arrangements across the combined portfolio and provide subject matter expertise to your extended team on other supply and commercial conditions.

Competencies/Skills:

• Global Procurement Leadership Across Development & Direct Materials: Proven track record leading procurement for Product Development, Analytical Services/Quality, and/or Direct Materials categories within the biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, or medical device industry, and demonstrated ability to work successfully with international colleagues in a highly collaborative manner and culture.

• Organizational Design & Change Leadership: Demonstrated experience integrating a new category or team into an established organization, and leading organizations through significant structural change.

• Exceptional Communication and Presentation Skills: Ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels within the company, with demonstrated capability to influence decision-making processes both through virtual and in-person audiences.

• Strong Problem-Solving Skills: Adept at working cross-functionally as a critical member of the Procurement leadership team and across other Global Procurement Towers.

• Leadership in Project Management: Experience leading projects and initiatives with significant global and site impact, achieving milestones and objectives using the category management lifecycle.

• Business Acumen and Strategic Thinking: Ability to manage business complexities and develop sustainable solutions, providing a clear roadmap for success across multiple, distinct spend categories.

• Business Partnering Orientation: Strong analytic, interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with a focus on building and maintaining effective business partnerships.

• Proactive and Innovative Approach: Creative and analytical mindset for continuous improvement in procurement services and identifying new opportunities.

• Technical Proficiency: Knowledge and proficiency with procurement systems such as Ariba is preferred.

Responsibilities include:

Organizational Leadership & Team Integration

• Lead the integration of Direct Materials Procurement into the existing, combined Product Development & Analytical Services organization, extending established governance and reporting standards to the newly added category.

• Establish common governance, category management routines, and reporting standards across the three combined sub-functions.

• Identify and capture synergies across the combined team, including shared supplier relationships, tools, and processes where appropriate.

• Lead change management activities to build a single, cohesive team culture and minimize disruption to business partners as Direct Materials joins the team.

Strategic Sourcing and Category Management

• Develop and implement a cohesive, long-term (3-5 year) category strategy for each sub-category, consolidating supplier, market, category, and internal business data.

• Lead the aggregation of category data to inform target setting, identifying initiatives and opportunities for savings, productivity, risk management, and innovation.

• Create and oversee the Annual Category Plan for the combined portfolio, ensuring alignment with business planning activities and category pipeline to meet or exceed annual targets.

• Develop and maintain a category management handbook to provide clear, practical guidance for procurement and functional colleagues.

• Lead and coach cross-functional global teams through category management stages, ensuring resources, information, and tools are in place for project execution.

• Ensure accurate reporting of procurement balanced scorecard measures and value contributions for each category.

• Implement programs to deliver spend accuracy in line with agreed goals.

• Conduct regular risk and CSR reviews within the combined category scope.

Supplier Performance and Risk Management

• Perform supplier segmentation across Product Development, Analytical Services, and Direct Materials to identify key relationships and conduct regular business reviews to ensure delivery to expectations and target value.

• Establish value creation targets with key suppliers in partnership with business stakeholders.

• Ensure contractual arrangements incorporate compliance and performance against KPIs.

• Assess and mitigate risks associated with supplier relationships and supply chain disruptions, including single-source and quality-critical materials.

Cost Management and Savings

• Drive cost reduction and optimization initiatives and identify savings opportunities across development, analytical, and direct materials categories.

• Develop and monitor budgets, ensuring alignment with financial goals and objectives.

• Negotiate contracts and agreements to secure favorable terms and conditions based on fair market values.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain stakeholders to understand needs and requirements across all three sub-categories.

• Collaborate with global procurement teams to ensure alignment and consistency in sourcing strategies.

• Facilitate communication and coordination between internal stakeholders and suppliers.

• Develop strong working relationships with key business stakeholders and administrative functions (Finance, HR, Legal, Privacy, Compliance).

Governance and Compliance

• Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including GMP where applicable.

• Develop and maintain procurement governance frameworks to support decision-making and accountability across the combined team.

• Monitor and report on compliance with contractual obligations and performance metrics.

Leadership and Team Development

• Lead and mentor a team of procurement professionals across Product Development, Analytical Services, and Direct Materials, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.

• Provide guidance and support to team members, helping them achieve professional goals through individual development plans.

• Promote a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

• Establish clear roles and responsibilities for the extended category team and communicate them effectively.

• Conduct performance management for direct reports and provide feedback for project-related resources.

• Develop a succession plan to support career development and ensure a talent pipeline.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement

• Identify and implement innovative procurement practices and technologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize procurement processes and performance across the combined team.

• Stay informed of industry advancements and emerging trends to maintain a competitive edge.

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external.

• Communicate procurement strategies, initiatives, and performance to senior leadership and other stakeholders.

• Act as a trusted advisor to the business, providing insights and recommendations on procurement-related matters.

Qualifications include:

Education:

• B.S./B.A. required; M.S./M.B.A. preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum 15 years of international business experience, with 10-12 years in multi-disciplined procurement, ideally spanning two or more of: Product Development, Analytical Services/Quality, or Direct Materials (sourcing or otherwise).

• Extensive knowledge of category management and advanced strategic sourcing methodologies.

• Demonstrated success leading global cross-functional project teams to generate material value across multiple, distinct complex categories.

• Documented experience leading cost reduction and value improvement programs.

• Proven experience leading large-scale organizational change and/or team integration efforts.

• Management experience, including prior experience in the biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, and/or medical device industry.

• Demonstrated successful leadership track record, including managing teams of senior professionals and managers, and establishing performance expectations.

• Experience in GMP procurement required.

Travel Requirements:

• High flexibility and willingness to travel (air, ground; both domestic and international) for various meetings at BMS and supplier sites.

Onsite Requirements:

• 50% over a 2-week span on-site attendance requirement.

$261,630 - $317,034

The starting pay range(s) listed above is for full-time employees (FTE). You may also be eligible for additional discretionary incentive cash and stock opportunities. We determine starting pay thoughtfully – carefully considering the nature of the role, required skills, work location, schedule and the knowledge and experience you bring. Final compensation is guided by pay equity principles and applicable employment laws. Compensation programs are reviewed on an ongoing basis and may be adjusted over time to reflect evolving market factors, and individual, team or Company performance.

U.S.-based exempt employees are eligible for Flexible Time Off (FTO), which provides paid time off without a set accrual limit, subject to manager approval, along with 11 paid company holidays each year.

Non-exempt employees, RayzeBio employees, and employees located in Puerto Rico receive 160 hours of paid vacation annually for new hires (subject to manager approval), 11 paid company holidays, and 3 optional holidays.
