The Position

The Opportunity: 

As the EDB Lead, you will provide strategic, scientific, and operational leadership for the Early Development Biometrics team in PDD China. Operating within China Early Development Center of Excellence (CED CoE), this role leads an integrated, multidisciplinary team of Biostatisticians, ADS Programmers, and Data Managers. You will serve as the primary PDD strategic partner to cross functional leaders in the CED COE, ensuring strategic alignment on China strategy for global early development assets, scientific and quantitative rigor, innovative trial designs, and end to end data execution across early-phase clinical programs.

• You contribute to and influence the China strategy in global early clinical development plans 

• You provide scientific and data science leadership across the China early development portfolio to ensure China strategy and China ED trials are scientifically rigorous, data-ready, and positioned for key internal decisions and governance milestones 

• You oversee an integrated, cross-disciplinary strategy combining statistical design, modern data acquisition/FAIRification, and advanced programming workflows across all China early-phase programs

• You guide the application of innovative methodologies such as Bayesian methods, simulation, and adaptive designs to support early decision making under uncertainty

• You promote the application of advanced analytics, the use of automated pipelines, and modern data science capabilities 

• You partner with global EDB leadership team to ensure local integration of global strategy, methodology and standards

• You drive technical and operational excellence across Biostatistics, ADS Programming , and Data Management in early development 

• You maintain strong alignment with key cross functional stakeholders on China strategy and execution, portfolio prioritization, and resource allocation

• You lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of Biostatisticians, ADS Programmers, and Data Managers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous learning

• You support the team development in technical depth, strategic agility, and cross-functional collaboration 

• You oversee portfolio capacity planning, workload balancing, and capability scaling to meet evolving clinical trial demands in China

Who You Are:

• You hold a PhD or Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline

• You bring 12+ years of experience in clinical research or pharmaceutical development, including experience in early development

• You have 3+ years of leadership experience (people, project, or program leadership)

• You have a proven track record of statistical or Biometrics leadership across multiple studies and programs, with impact on development strategy and decision making 

• You have in-depth knowledge of early phase clinical development, including scientific, technical, and regulatory requirements

• You bring excellent strategic agility including problem-solving, critical thinking skills, and  ability to make decisions based upon sound principles

• You demonstrate the ability to lead and develop multidisciplinary biometrics teams, fostering scientific excellence and individual growth

• You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly to senior stakeholders 

• You have strong intercultural awareness and respect for diversity when collaborating across global teams and geographies

Preferred:

• Experience leading statistical or data science contributions to early development strategies, including dose finding, proof-of-concept, and translational study design

• Exposure to modern data types and exploratory analysis techniques, including biomarkers, -omics, imaging, or real-world data

• Engagement in scientific consortia, or external partners on topics related to early development analytics

• Strong interest in or experience with digital innovation, AI/ML, or advanced data science methods applicable to early-phase research

• Proven success in building high-performing teams with diverse functional skill sets

• Proven ability to lead through ambiguity and influence in a matrixed or agile environment
