<p><b>Director - Science Communications and Engagement</b></p><p><b>Role:</b> Permanent position</p><p><b>Location:</b> Cambridge</p><p></p><p>Are you passionate about scientific communication? We are now looking for an experienced and talented individual to serve as the <b>Director of Science Communications and Engagement</b> within Discovery Sciences. This is both a strategic and operational role, where you will be responsible for crafting, developing, and executing impactful communication strategies and materials that inspire our teams and stakeholders.</p><p>With your unique blend of scientific expertise and strategic communication skills, you will play a pivotal role in showcasing our innovative science and leadership. Collaborating closely with cross-functional partners in R&amp;D Communications, Global Corporate Affairs and Therapy Areas, you will drive internal and external engagement, reporting, and event planning.</p><p>This role reports to the Head of Business Planning &amp; Operations (BPO), Discovery Sciences.</p><p></p><p><b>What you’ll do</b></p><ul><li><p>Define and implement the internal communication strategy for Discovery Sciences.</p></li><li><p>Work closely with Discovery Sciences’ Senior Vice President and Head of Business Planning &amp; Operations to develop content and materials for internal and external meetings, conferences, as well as key presentations.</p></li><li><p>Define and implement the internal communications and engagement strategy for defined areas or defined initiatives within Discovery Sciences, aligning with key stakeholders across AstraZeneca and driving the correct narrative.</p></li><li><p>Contribute to monthly reports, town halls, and presentations for delivery at all levels of seniority across AstraZeneca, ensuring the effective communication of our discovery stories.</p></li><li><p>Deliver high-quality, engaging events and broadcasts</p></li><li><p>Drive the development and communication of science, technology, and project stories to showcase our innovative science and research, both internally and externally.</p></li><li><p>Lead the way in showcasing and utilising AI tools in the communication space.</p></li><li><p>Facilitate the creation of relevant content for the internal platforms and support the communication of business reporting.</p></li><li><p>Foster a culture of community building and best practice sharing within the SEN team.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Essential Requirements</b></p><p>As the<b> Director - Scientific Communications and Engagement</b>, you will combine your scientific background with your excellent ability to express science and complex data in a clear and aesthetic way for effective and compelling communication.  You have:</p><ul><li><p>Master&#39;s or PhD in a scientific discipline within the life sciences</p></li><li><p>Substantial prior experience in the internal communication role in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry</p></li><li><p>In-depth scientific knowledge of research and understanding of the pharmaceutical drug discovery and development process</p></li><li><p>Hand-on experience in using AI tools to facilitate communication and engagement in the R&amp;D space</p></li><li><p>Experience in developing communication strategies and a proven record of successful delivery</p></li><li><p>Experience in supporting senior partners in an organization; translating their vision into story telling communication strategies accessible by wide audiences</p></li><li><p>Strong analytical skills and a proven track record of delivering on business goals within defined timelines</p></li><li><p>Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English</p></li><li><p>Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate science and influence both internal and external stakeholders, including senior management</p></li><li><p>Passion for scientific communication and a talent for translating complex information into clear, compelling narratives fit for the audience.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated ability to engage, influence, and collaborate across organisational boundaries with a delivery-focused, problem-solving mindset</p></li><li><p>Passion for driving employee engagement and facilitating business change through effective communication.</p></li><li><p>Agile and adaptable, with a keen eye for detail and a focus on delivering high-quality work</p></li><li><p>Collaborative spirit and a proven ability to work effectively in a global, matrix research environment</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Desirable requirements:</b></p><p>Experience in supporting culture development and establishing an environment for growth and optimal working</p><p>Experience in matrix management and project management</p><p></p><p><b>So, what’s next?</b></p><p></p><p>Are you already imagining yourself joining our team?
