With significant operations, deep institutional relationships, and a growing role in supporting national healthcare and innovation priorities, we are committed to strengthening our position as a key partner to the Italian government.</p><div></div><p><b>The Opportunity</b></p><p>We are seeking a <b>Director of Government Relations, Italy</b>, to lead and elevate our engagement across the Italian political, regulatory, and policy landscape.</p><p>Based in <b>Rome</b> and reporting to the <b>Senior Director, EMEA Government Relations & Public Affairs </b>, this role will be responsible for defining and executing a best-in-class government relations strategy that enhances Thermo Fisher’s reputation, strengthens stakeholder relationships, and drives policy outcomes aligned with our mission and business priorities.</p><p>This is a high-impact, highly visible leadership role, requiring a senior professional who can operate autonomously, influence at the highest levels, and act as a trusted advisor to both internal leadership and external stakeholders.</p><div></div><p><b>Key Responsibilities</b></p><p><b>Strategic Leadership & Policy Development</b></p><ul><li>Develop and implement a comprehensive Italy Government Relations strategy, aligned with EMEA and global priorities</li><li>Identify and prioritise key policy themes and legislative developments impacting Thermo Fisher’s operations and growth</li><li>Provide strategic counsel to country leadership and EMEA leadership on political and regulatory developments</li><li>Shape Thermo Fisher’s public policy positions to support innovation, healthcare advancement, and industry growth</li></ul><div></div><p><b>Stakeholder Engagement & External Representation</b></p><ul><li>Serve as the primary representative and point of contact for Thermo Fisher with:<ul><li>Government officials and policymakers</li><li>Regulatory authorities</li><li>Trade associations and industry bodies</li><li>Embassies, NGOs, and advocacy organisations</li></ul></li><li>Build and maintain high-value relationships at senior levels across the Italian ecosystem</li><li>Represent Thermo Fisher at industry forums, conferences, and policy discussions, positioning the company as a thought leader</li></ul><div></div><p><b>Policy Advocacy & Influence</b></p><ul><li>Lead engagement on consultations, policy proposals, and legislative processes</li><li>Build coalitions and partnerships to advance aligned policy positions</li><li>Drive Thermo Fisher’s presence and influence within industry associations, ensuring effective representation of business priorities</li><li>Coordinate advocacy strategies that support market access, innovation, and regulatory alignment</li></ul><div></div><p><b>Internal Collaboration & Business Partnership</b></p><ul><li>Partner closely with:<ul><li>Italy country leadership</li><li>Commercial and operational teams</li><li>Legal, compliance, and communications functions</li></ul></li><li>Translate complex policy developments into clear business insights and <b>actions</b></li><li>Lead the development of briefing materials, position papers, and executive communications</li><li>Support and coordinate C-suite engagement and high-level visits in Italy</li></ul><div></div><p><b>Monitoring & Intelligence</b></p><ul><li>Establish robust processes for<b> </b>monitoring and analysing legislative and regulatory developments</li><li>Provide timely, actionable updates to internal stakeholders</li><li>Anticipate risks and opportunities, enabling proactive positioning</li></ul><div></div><p><b>Candidate Profile</b></p><p>You are a credible and well-connected government affairs leader with a strong understanding of the Italian political and regulatory landscape. You bring a strategic mindset, executive presence, and the ability to influence at senior levels within complex environments.</p><p><b>Experience & Capabilities</b></p><ul><li>Proven experience in government affairs, public policy, or regulatory roles, ideally within life sciences, healthcare, or a highly regulated industry</li><li>Strong network across the<b> </b>Italian political, legislative, and regulatory ecosystem</li><li>Track record of developing and executing impactful policy and advocacy strategies</li><li>Ability to translate policy developments into clear business implications</li><li>Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills</li><li>High level of<b> </b>integrity, judgement, and professionalism</li></ul><div></div><p><b>Education</b></p><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in <b>Law, Political Science, International Relations, Public Affairs</b>, or related field</li></ul><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p>
