About the Position:

This role will lead the European Field Medical Affairs organization for HCM and HF, building and developing a high-performing MSL team that delivers compliant, high-quality scientific engagement across key markets. The Director will set field strategy, strengthen relationships with external experts and clinical sites, translate insights into actionable medical and clinical priorities, and support launch readiness, evidence generation, and clinical trial execution in close partnership with cross-functional teams.

The Director, Field Medical Affairs is responsible for managing a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and/or Clinical Trial Liaisons (CTLs) trained in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) and Heart Failure (HF). This position reports to the Head of Field Medical Affairs.

Essential Job Duties and Functions:

Set the vision, strategy, and operating model for the European MSL organization, aligned to medical and corporate priorities.
Lead, coach, and develop a geographically dispersed team of MSLs; recruit, onboard, and retain top scientific talent.
Define and govern standards for scientific engagement, including KOL strategy, external engagement planning, documentation, and compliant scientific exchange.
Oversee relationship-building with national and regional KOLs, academic centers, and community networks to ensure consistent, high-quality scientific dialogue.
Partner with Medical Affairs & Field Medical leadership to develop and execute the integrated medical plan; ensure field priorities translate into clear territory plans and deliverables.
Establish mechanisms to capture, synthesize, and communicate field insights to inform cross-functional decision-making, evidence generation, and strategy refinement.
Serve as a senior scientific resource for major initiatives including congress strategy and execution, advisory boards, internal training, and strategic planning forums.
Lead and contribute to cross-functional teams and initiatives, with a proven track record of managing multiple projects and priorities.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Clinical Development, Regulatory, Commercial, and Market Access to support clinical trial awareness, launch readiness, and post-launch evidence plans.
Communicate scientific and clinical information clearly and accurately, ensuring sites understand study objectives, rationale, investigational product profile, and any updates or amendments.
Participate in clinical study team meetings and quality meetings, as needed, providing input on operational issues based on site visits and contacts.
Attend and present at SIVs, investigator meetings, and monitor workshops or training sessions.
Participate in site visits with investigator site staff and/or CRO representatives, or independently, in support of clinical trial execution; report back to study teams on feasibility, start-up activities, enrollment, or escalated study/site issues.
Support enrollment and retention efforts through tailored discussion, data-driven insights, and strong relationship-building.
Identify and escalate site needs, barriers, or operational challenges to the Clinical Operations and Medical teams.
Own MSL performance measurement and impact reporting, including quality metrics, insight value, scientific engagement outcomes, and continuous improvement plans.
Oversee MSL tools and processes (e.g., CRM/activity tracking), field communications, and training to drive consistency, efficiency, and audit readiness.

Required Education, Experience and Skills:

Accredited doctorate degree in a life-science or basic-science discipline (Pharm.D., D.Sc., D.N.P., Ph.D., or M.D./D.O.) strongly preferred.
In-depth knowledge of cardiovascular diseases, specifically HCM and HFpEF, including current treatments, emerging therapies, and key scientific publications.
Minimum of 5–7 years of experience working in a clinical or pharmaceutical environment.
Deep expertise in HCM and HF with strong understanding of current treatment paradigms, evolving standards of care, and clinical research trends.
Demonstrated ability to build, scale, and lead high-performing field organizations, including talent strategy, succession planning, and development of managers.
Proven track record of KOL engagement strategy and partnership-building across academic and community cardiology settings.
Strong strategic thinking with ability to translate external insights and scientific data into integrated medical strategies and clear execution priorities.
Excellent communication, influence, and presentation skills; ability to represent Field Medical Affairs credibly with senior internal stakeholders and external experts.
Expert knowledge of compliance guidelines and regulatory frameworks governing pharmaceutical field medical activities.
Experience with MSL CRM and activity tracking platforms (e.g., Veeva) and comfort using data to drive performance and planning.
Experience leading field medical for a product launch and/or major label expansion in cardiology.
Experience designing insight systems and impact measurement frameworks (quality metrics, outcomes, and value storytelling).
Prior experience in a small-to-mid-size biotech and comfort building scalable processes in a lean environment.
Willingness to travel internationally up to 70% to support field execution, coaching, leadership meetings, and conference attendance.
Cross-cultural awareness.
Flexibility to attend major cardiology conferences (e.g., ESC-HF, ESC) and key regional meetings, including occasional weekend travel.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel by air and ground as required.
Commitment to upholding all industry regulations and company policies in interactions with healthcare professionals.
