The data architect establishes standards and patterns for data warehousing, storage, transmission, performance, and balancing architectural rigor with business needs. <span>This individual must have a keen understanding of key organizational data, structuring disparate data sources, system capabilities, and context of building such an infrastructure in a rare disease company.</span>  <b>#LI-REMOTE</b></p><p></p><p></p><p><b>ESSENTIAL DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES:</b></p><ul><li>Develop, maintain, and scale data architecture foundation that joins disparate data sources and enforces a single source of truth across BioCryst commercial warehouses and systems globally.</li><li>Lead the development, management, and ongoing improvements for complex data feeds to ensure alignment across Patient Services, Sales, Market Access, and Marketing systems with partners and various BioCryst groups.</li><li>Design and own scalable commercial and patient services data architecture, including core data models, interfaces, and integration standards, to enable rapid onboarding of new specialty pharmacy and channel partners while ensuring appropriate governance and control.</li><li>Partner closely with Patient Services, Commercial Enablement, Advanced Analytics, and field teams to identify new use cases for data and ensure architectural decisions support business workflows while remaining scalable, secure, and outcomes‑ready.</li><li>Integrate pharmacy and patient‑level data feeds into BioCryst’s data ecosystem by aligning with existing data warehouses, semantic layer, and reporting tools to maintain a single source of truth and consistent enterprise metrics.</li><li>Responsible for evolving and managing governance procedures and policies that meet industry-specific requirements for BioCryst’s Hi-Security and Commercial data warehouses.</li></ul><ul><li>Own ethical and responsible use of data, particularly in AI-driven initiatives, partnering with Data Science to structure and design data that support advanced analytics and scalable operationalization.</li><li>Own, maintain, and evolve AI infrastructure to meet business initiatives by empowering BioCryst stakeholders to reach outcomes more quickly.</li><li>Own the onboarding and ingestion of data into BioCryst Commercial data warehouses, implementing automated quality controls, validation, and exception management to ensure trusted data.</li><li>Own the data feed and architectural foundations for Commercial AI/ML initiatives by partnering with Data Science to support advanced analytics, statistical modeling, and iterative code development from concept to production</li><li>Lead the development and maintenance of self‑service tools leveraging BioCryst data warehouses and the semantic layer to drive faster, outcome‑focused decision‑making.</li><li>Develop, monitor, and manage KPI monitoring measurements that assess the effectiveness of data management processes and tools.</li><li>Identify trends, areas for improvement, and optimization opportunities through analysis.</li><li>Strategic thought partner to IT for how data is structured, stored, and transmitted across data ecosystems.</li><li>Drive innovation by identifying trends and emerging technologies in data management and continuously improving tools and methodologies.  </li><li>Lead and be a strategic advisor to partners who host BioCryst data in cloud-based systems (Snowflake, AWS, Azure, etc.) and data transformation technologies (DataBricks).</li><li>Partner with Strategic Data Insights and Operations and IT for BioCryst policy and data governance.</li><li>All other duties assigned.</li></ul><p></p><p><b>EXPERIENCE &amp; QUALIFICATIONS:</b></p><ul><li>A bachelor’s degree in a technology discipline or closely related field with an emphasis in information technology, and a minimum of 8 years of professional experience as a data architect OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.</li><li>A minimum of 8 years’ experience working with data management and architecture principles, tools, and solutions.</li><li>Experience and basic understanding of AI-related data skills such as machine learning, python, and various data-related AI modules within the python eco-system.</li><li>Proven expertise in cloud ecosystems such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, with experience using platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, or other modern data tools.</li><li>Demonstrated proficiency with Power BI and other visualization tools.</li><li>Experience operationalizing data governance policies and automating enforcement mechanisms.</li><li>Background in Life Sciences and/or Healthcare industries is a plus, particularly with regulatory compliance (HIPAA).</li><li>Strong analytical, written, listening, and oral communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.</li><li>Expertise in structured analysis and design methodologies, including data modeling, data integration, and database architecture projects.</li><li>Demonstrated success with systems integration efforts, process optimization, and innovation in data management.</li><li>Ability to build relationships across departments and facilitate collaboration on data initiatives.</li><li>Relevant experience with specialty pharma data preferred.</li><li>Relevant experience with rare disease states preferred.</li></ul><p></p><p><i>The statements in this position description are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
